Tencent Acquires Major Stake In 'GTFO' Developer 10 Chambers

by Rainier on Oct. 1, 2020 @ 12:30 a.m. PDT

GTFO is a 4-player co-op action/horror FPS game, made for hardcore gamers looking for a true challenge.

Players get to play as a team of scavengers, forced to explore and extract valuable artefacts from a vast underground complex that has been overrun by horrifying monsters. Gather weapons, tools and resources to help you survive - and work to unearth the answers about your past and how to escape.

In GTFO, you and your friends will explore hostile and terrifying environments where, in an instant, you are thrown from edge-of-your-seat suspense to frantic action. It’s a large-scale experience, testing players in their ability to gear up and adapt to an endless string of unknown and ever-changing challenges.

10 Chambers Collective consists in part of founding members of Overkill Software and the game designer behind the PAYDAY franchise. With GTFO, they aim to explore and develop the 4-player co-op formula even further.

GTFO is a game with a thick atmosphere intercut by intense action - and the experienced development team shows its strengths in all aspects of the presentation.

Tencent acquired a major stake in Swedish game studio 10 Chambers, also known as After Impact AB. The studio was founded in 2015 by nine industry veterans, known for games such as “Payday: The Heist” and “PAYDAY 2”.

“As we're closing in on six years of development of GTFO, we've realized that our ambitious long-term vision for our studio will need more muscle. We needed to find a partner that gives us the creative freedom to reach these new heights, while at the same time support our long-term commitment to the GTFO community. For the future of the studio as a whole; it makes it even more exciting” says Ulf Andersson, Creative Director of 10 Chambers.

Right now the studio is working hard on a significant update for GTFO, as part of their ”rundown concept”, where the game is regularly updated with new expeditions (i.e. maps, scenarios, enemies, etc.) that replace the previous ones.

"We are thrilled to have Tencent by our side on our continued journey, and are looking forward to expanding our team and take the company to the next level. With the combined skills, network, and resources of both companies, we are planning to make GTFO an even more terrifying experience, as well as embark on new adventures together", says Oscar J-T Holm, CSO of 10 Chambers.

“Tencent and 10 Chambers share the same passion to create exciting and engaging experiences for our game communities. We are delighted to partner with the creative talents of 10 Chambers and look forward to supporting long-term development of the studio to achieve their vision in the co-op FPS genre”, says Eddie Chan, Vice President of Tencent Games.

Jefferies acted as financial adviser and Bird & Bird as legal adviser to 10 Chambers.
