'The Waylanders' Early Access Updates Add New Companions, Quests, and More

by Rainier on Oct. 1, 2020 @ 3:56 p.m. PDT

The Waylanders is an RPG that will provide players an engaging narrative featuring impactful character development, unique companion romance options, and a deeply technical combat system.

A fantasy RPG inspired by beloved classics such as Dragon Age: Origins, Neverwinter Nights 2, and even a smidge of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (time travelling!), The Waylanders is a party-based experience set in the Celtic and Medieval eras featuring innovative and technical combat to make it stand out all on its own.

Real-time combat with a tactical pause option, The Waylanders can be played from the classic isometric, top-down view but can also be shifted into third person perspective. Featuring unique character creation and a massive 36 character classes based on six basic classes and 30 more advanced ones means every play style imaginable can be accommodated. Its most innovative offering, is the introduction of formations whereby characters will combine into offensive formations allowing for deep combat tactics and enabling players to play the game their own way.

In The Waylanders, you lead a party of 5 characters, utilizing over 800 different skills, to overcome challenges and defeat your enemies.

Gato Salvaje Studio has been hard at work bringing more companions, new quests, areas, scenarios, cinematics, UI/UX improvements, and more to the Early Access Celtic Era of their time travel RPG, The Waylanders.

First launched in Steam Early Access this summer, The Waylanders has received weekly updates focused on adding content, adjusting gameplay based on community feedback, improving features, and fixing bugs. Most interesting to fans are new quests and companions who joined the myth-filled adventure in August and September updates.

New companions have joined the party. The Egyptian sage Khaldun, tricksy musical goblin Trasté, monster hunter Mal, and werewolf pathfinder Rea can now be recruited to join the adventure. These new party members bring the total of recruitable companions in this section of the game to nine.

Additionally, new loyalty quests for companions Mal, Brigg, and Berath have been made available. Ranging from Berath’s narrative heavy story to a battle-filled adventure including a new boss and mini-boss alongside Mal, each loyalty quest provides a new experience for The Waylanders players.

All these updates also added new places for players to visit. The new Nettle Cavern and Shaded Cascades areas add optional combat areas for players to test new skills and party combinations. New main quests like Corrupted Circle open up additional areas to explore and added Fateful Encounters introduce random challenges that appear while travelling between maps.

A final roadmap is being planned as the team continues to work on Celtic and Medieval era content, as well as localizing the game in Spanish, French, German, Simplified Chinese, Russian, and other languages.

Key Features:

  • Real time combat with tactical pause, character creation and 36 classes (6 basic and 30 advanced)
  • Played from top-down isometric perspective that can be shifted to third person perspective
  • Inspired by RPG classics Dragon Age and Neverwinter Nights 2
  • 12 different combat formations (2 per class) where players fuse characters to provide varied and technical combat options

Currently available through Steam Early Access and the GOG Games In Development, The Waylanders is coming to PC in Q1 2021.
