'Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition' (ALL) Gets Pre-Order Bonus, Vergil DLC Date, Ray Tracing On Xbox Series X

by Rainier on Oct. 26, 2020 @ 6:41 p.m. PDT

The Devil you know returns in this entry of the over-the-top action series, so prepare to get downright demonic with its signature blend of high-octane stylized action and otherworldly & original characters the series is known for.

Ten years since Devil May Cry 4, Director Hideaki Itsuno and the core team have reunited to conclude the long-awaited Sons of Sparda saga.

Years have passed since the legions of hell have set foot in this world, but now a new demonic invasion has begun, and humanity's last hope will rest in the hands of three lone demon hunters, each offering a radically different play style. United by fate and a thirst for vengeance, these demon hunters will have to face their demons in the hope to survive.

The threat of demonic power has returned to menace the world once again in Devil May Cry 5. The invasion begins when the seeds of a “demon tree” take root in Red Grave City. As this hellish incursion starts to take over the city, a young demon hunter Nero, arrives with his partner Nico in their “Devil May Cry” motorhome. Finding himself without the use of his right arm, Nero enlists Nico, a self-professed weapons artist, to design a variety of unique mechanical Devil Breaker arms to give him extra powers to take on evil demons such as the blood sucking flying Empusa and giant colossus enemy Goliath.

The first arm Nico makes for Nero, the Overture Devil Breaker, looks plain in style allowing Nero to wear it inconspicuously throughout the city, but the hidden electric generator inside is enough to shock any demons that come too close. Adding a bit more versatility, the Gerbera Devil Breaker generates an intense heat that can be shot out as a highly powerful shockwave which can be used as a direct attack, reflect enemy projectiles, or even to propel Nero through the air and augment his evasion capabilities.

Combined with melee attacks using his ‘Red Queen’ sword and the long range firepower of his ‘Blue Rose’ handgun, the power of Nero’s Devil Breaker arms add dramatic adrenaline fueled action to the eternal battle between the forces of good and evil that plays out in the streets of Red Grave City. With the arrival of Dante on his flashy motorbike, the pair of demon hunters are set to try and save the city and find out what’s behind this latest demon invasion.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition comes packed with an abundance of new features and game modes powered by next-gen consoles, in addition to the heavily requested arrival of Vergil as a playable character. With Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, Capcom is upping the ante on stylish action with the introduction of next-gen features such as ray tracing technology and enhanced 3D audio, fan-favorite modes including Turbo Mode and Legendary Dark Knight Mode, and the inclusion of Deluxe Edition and EX Color Pack content.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition will be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X (compatible with Xbox Series S) for MSRP $39.99, with the digital version arriving as day one launch titles for next-gen consoles.

The power of next-gen consoles has unlocked new ways to experience the superb stylish action in Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, with the inclusion of new gameplay modes such as Legendary Dark Knight Mode and Turbo Mode. Each mode offers a new and distinct level of difficulty for those looking to push their skills to the limit. Fans seeking an added challenge can grapple with the increased enemy count in the perilous Legendary Dark Knight Mode, a new difficulty level which promises to keep even the most seasoned devil hunters on their toes by pitting their skills and style against a Crazy amount of enemies. Adrenaline junkies can pit their reaction times against the increased speed of Turbo Mode, which ups the gameplay speed by 20 percent to allow for even more rapid fire and fluid combos.

Motivated by the overwhelming fan requests for playable Vergil, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition adds to the latest installment in the Sons of Sparda saga by allowing players to play through the destruction of the fictitious Red Grave City as Vergil. In addition to the new Vergil mode, players will be able to take Vergil through the perilous floors of the Bloody Palace challenge mode, while wielding his iconic blade the Yamato. All Vergil content will also be made available for current owners of Devil May Cry 5 for MSRP $4.99 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam).

DMC5 Vergil DLC Release Date

We mentioned this early on alongside our game announcement, but never gave you a firm date or price. Well, it’s time to change that.

Our dev team has been hard at work in getting DMC5SE ready to launch the same day as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, so Vergil will be arriving on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC just a few weeks after that, on December 15th, 2020 and will cost just US$4.99 / €4.99 / £3.99.

To keep you motivated, we’ll leave you with a quick reminder that Vergil will be fully playable on Story Missions, The Void, and Bloody Palace.

DMC5SE Pre-Order Bonus

Starting right now, you can pre-order Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S digital stores. Anyone who purchases the game by November 18th, 2020 will get a free pack of 100,000 Red Orbs. These are immensely useful early on in the game as they’ll help unlock moves, buy Devil Breakers, buy other Orbs and even bring you back from defeat in a pinch. Or… you can be a total badass and just hold onto them, saving up for some of those pricey Taunts. Up to you.

An Update on Ray tracing for Xbox Series X|S

We’re excited to bring Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition to Xbox Series X|S with high frame rates up to 120 fps, enhanced 3D audio, reduced loading times, the Legendary Dark Knight difficulty, Turbo Mode and playable Vergil on both consoles.

Fans playing Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition on Xbox Series X will also experience the game in 4k resolution and with Direct X Ray Tracing. Both consoles deliver amazing next generation speed and performance, and while we are just now scratching the surface of what they can do our teams are eager to continue exploring the full capabilities of Xbox Series X|S in the future.

While ray tracing will be available as a downloadable title update on Xbox Series X, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition will not support ray tracing on Xbox Series S.
