'Volta-X' (ALL) Crossover Collaboration With Yooka & Laylee Next Month

by Rainier on Oct. 29, 2020 @ 11:43 p.m. PDT

Volta-X is a competitive sock-and-bop robot piloting combat/strategy game.

Volta-X is an ode to classic anime of the ‘70s by allowing players to fulfill their childhood dreams of customizing their own bots and battling it out against their friends to see who’s the better pilot!

Volta-X drops players into PvP battles and gives access to each robot’s resource management, making it a fully controlled experience. With steel-piercing lasers, heavy-hitting chain maces, and blazingly fast rocket launchers, players will have no problem building their ultimate combat machine. Once its locked and loaded, they can assign a crew of adorable animal characters with special abilities to pilot them. Utilizing the best loadout will be essential to victory on the robot arena!

Players will take part in the Robot League, a tournament where players compete with their robots in awesome battles to become champions! Taking control of the crew, players will send them from room to room to power up weapons, put out fires, and repair broken equipment.

Of course, earning victory in the Robot League can’t be done purely with the robots themselves. It also requires a happy and healthy crew! Back in the base, players will build new rooms like lounges and cafes to make sure their animal friends are prepared to take on new opponents! Who’s next?

What’s all the buzz (and beep-boops) about?

GungHo Online Entertainment America announced that a crossover collaboration with Playtonic Games’ Yooka-Laylee is on its way to Volta-X this November. Additionally, in the strategic robot battler’s first major free content update, players today will see changes to the game’s Headquarters and combat balancing, as well as new weapons, and Emotes.

Yooka and Laylee are gearing up for a fight — and they mean bees-ness! Yooka will turn a new page on this tail — errr tale — by joining the Volta Crew in an original story mission, complete with his own unique abilities. “Slurp State” allows Yooka to take on any environmental effects in a room and imbue his next attacks with that effect. More details on the collaboration are coming soon.

As for the new update dropping today, the Headquarters hub is receiving an Edit Mode, which will allow players to move parts of their Base around. Improvements have also been made to Crew Assignments and selection. Players will receive new battle Emotes and a Volta taunt, and can now access multiple save slots if they want to battle their way through the game’s story again.

Four new weapons are being thrown into the mix to change up the game:

  • Light Punch delivers a low-damage, fast-cooldown attack that gives players the opportunity to strike over and over again. It can’t target flying objects, but it can overwhelm an opponent with a furious flurry of jabs.
  • Ballista does less damage, but this ancient, long-ranged weapon has an extremely short cooldown.
  • Shotgun sprays opponents with multiple projectiles at once, doing either high damage to one Volta part in close range or less damage to multiple parts from a distance.
  • Chainsaw inflicts damage upon making contact with an opponent’s part and damages the part three more times as it makes a deeper cut.
Starting on Halloween day, players will be able to compete in a series of special tournaments to win spooky new Kaiju and Volta themed Costumes for their Crew. Just hope that your bot doesn’t go sci-fi on you with a mind of its own! In addition to the special Halloween events, Volta-X will be 50 percent off on Nintendo Switch and Steam, from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2.

But it’s not just PvP, players will also be able to dive into Volta-X’s thrilling single-player campaign. There’s more to the life of a Volta pilot than trying to become the best in the World Volta Association (WVA). Follow the characters as they customize their own giant robots and climb the ranks of the WVA tournament. As the story unfolds, the pilots will have to work together to prove themselves as the best of the best, while discovering dramatic secrets about each other, and the global threats lurking in the shadows of the WVA’s past.

Key Features:

  • PERSONALIZE THE PERFECT LOADOUT: Each Volta starts with a similar foundation, but more complicated weaponry adds nearly endless depth and customization options for winning pilots. There’s nothing more satisfying than creating your perfectly balanced loadout and taking on opponents in highly competitive strategic battles!
  • YOUR PILOT’S JOURNEY: Our pilots all had a path that led them to piloting a Volta. Through a single-player campaign, your pilot will qualify for the league and fight tooth and nail to climb the championship ranks. Along the way, pilots may even discover some dramatic secrets about themselves and their world.
  • MANAGE YOUR TEAM’S BASE: The fight itself is only half the battle. Preparation is key, and pilots must be well rested and continually researching ways to level up their arsenal. Take full control of your headquarters to keep your team focused for battle and on the cutting edge of powerful Volta tech.
  • MAKE YOUR MARK ON THE WORLD: Connect with other players in Clans to share strategies and fight each other, keeping your skills sharp. Engage in PVP battles and special Events against the whole world. Only then can pilots prove their mettle by getting to the top of the global leaderboard and making a name for themselves in the World Volta Association!

Volta-X is available on Nintendo Switch and PC for $19.99.
