'Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair' (ALL) Celebrates First Anniversary With Switch Sale And Digitial Comic

by Rainier on Oct. 9, 2020 @ 7:26 a.m. PDT

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is a platform adventure where the colorful buddy duo must tackle a series of stunning, 2.5D levels and explore a puzzling 3D Overworld rich with secrets and surprises.

The return of ‘Tonics’, game-modifying potions first encountered in the original Yooka-Laylee, has also been confirmed. More than 60 Tonics can be collected, giving players the ability to mix up the game in brand-new ways. In Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, Tonics not only affect gameplay – including infinite rolling, harder enemies, and super speed – but also unlock new environmental and visual effects!

A range of exciting 2.5D levels sit within an expansive 3D Overworld, as Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair sees the duo unite in order to rescue members of Queen Phoebee’s Royal Beettalion Guard from the dastardly Capital B, in a quest to ultimately take on his most nefarious challenge yet: The Impossible Lair.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair was released on 8th October 2019r for PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. Aside from a well-deserved birthday cake for Yooka and Laylee, Playtonic has created a special comic strip to commemorate the occasion, featuring an original story in the universe of the colourful duo.

Throughout this week Playtonic has been sharing pages of a brand new comic strip via their social media channels, telling the story of a mysterious fire in the forest that disturbs Yooka and Laylee’s gaming time.

Veteran games artist Kev Bayliss, who worked on both Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair and the original Yooka-Laylee, has produced the comic strip, which reintroduces Trowzer the Snake, Rodney the Blamphibian, and other characters from the series. Playtonic is also sharing highlights from the speedrunning community playing through the 2D platformer as well, which has been a hit with speedrunners since it launched 12 months ago.

To top it all off, Yooka and Laylee can also be seen in some special artwork celebrating the birthday of the game with their very own cake, and players who have yet to experience the adventure can purchase the game on Nintendo Switch at a 60% discount until 11th October.

Pre-orders for the game can be made from today, providing players access to the exclusive ‘Trowzer’s Top Tonic Pack’, a collection of four exclusive cosmetic Tonics perfect for players eager to start their adventure through the Royal Stingdom:

  • Largee Head tonic: This tonic gives Laylee a comically oversized head
  • Glow Worm tonic: Yooka and Laylee glow like… well, glow worms
  • D.I.S.C.O. tonic: Turn every level into a platforming party of Playtonic proportions
  • Yooka 64: A blast from the past Tonic for fans of all things retro

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is available digitally on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC for £24.99 / $29.99 / €29.99.
