by Rainier on Nov. 24, 2020 @ 3:34 p.m. PST

Martha Is Dead is a dark psychological thriller with rich narrative, lore and real-world locations.

Martha is Dead continues LKA’s signature style of deep multi-layered narratives combined with real locations and a mix of history, superstition and psychological distress. LKAs expertise for delving into complex and riveting subject matter that borrows from both fact and fiction helps to distinguish its development pedigree and passion.

Set in Tuscany, 1944, south of the Gothic line, as conflict intensifies between German and Allied forces, the desecrated body of a woman is found drowned. Her twin sister, the young daughter of a German soldier must deal with the acute trauma of loss, while the truth of the brutal murder is shrouded by mysterious folklore and the extreme horror of war draws ever closer.

With photo-realism at its core and using advanced texturing techniques alongside full support for real-time ray tracing, Martha is Dead is built in Unreal Engine 4 and is set once again to blur the boundary between gaming and reality by bringing human stories to life; amplified with high-level production, cinematic visuals and haunting audio.

Announced in August for Xbox family of devices and PC, work has been progressing in tandem for PlayStation consoles, with publisher Wired Productions now able to confirm Martha is Dead will launch on all three platforms in 2021.

“Now players have next-generation consoles in their hands, it’s exciting to watch Martha is Dead take shape on both PlayStation and the Xbox family of devices,” says Leo Zullo, Managing Director, Wired Productions. “The game builds upon developer LKA’s signature style of deep, multi-layered narratives and was always intended to be a multi-platform release that raises expectations of what can be achieved by an indie studio on next-generation hardware and PC.”

“Martha is Dead represents a step forward for LKA,” offers Luca Dalco, Founder & Director, LKA. “This is a game that merges the raw power of PC and next-generation consoles, and all we’ve learned from developing  The Town of Light. Martha is Dead is an evolution in psychological storytelling, and we’re driven to build a compelling, gripping world Full of twists and turns for players to explore in 2021.”

Fans of first-person thrillers will experience a unique opportunity through Martha is Dead, as the game offers a chilling story seen through the eyes of an innocent young woman who is on a mission to find out the truth. Along the way, she will encounter situations and discover things no one should have to… mortal death was the easy path compared to this one marred by mental and emotional distress which lingers on.

Martha is Dead is in development for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC, scheduled for 2021.
