Most importantly, you are vulnerable, equipped with as much power as your adversaries. Survive through wild, brutal lands teeming with enemies, obstacles, and fantasy creatures, using combat and magic to overcome both the harsh environment and the rivals in your way.
While a level of failure is almost guaranteed, failing is merely another spin on the player's personal epic story! A unique magical system, thrilling combat, and survival in a world full of dangers are key elements of this upcoming fantasy RPG, and through each player's unique journey all of this will be learned.
The life of an adventurer isn't about becoming all powerful. It's about outsmarting your enemies and planning ahead to overcome your challenges. Lay traps, use special equipment, perform a magic ritual, bring your friends. Come up with a solution tailored to your problem instead of rushing headfirst into danger.
Outward is playable alone or with friends, either online or in split-screen co-op. Start from humble beginnings and build your way up until you become a hardened wanderer. Traverse incredible landscapes rich with diversity and life, progressing your skills with each dynamic quest.
While bandits and monsters are serious threats, you still need to eat, drink and sleep to survive. You need to set up your camp to get through the night and sometimes, the cold weather or an infectious disease might be the gravest danger you face.
Casting spells shouldn’t be as simple as pressing a button. To cast spells in Outward, you have to know the steps to the ritual and perform them in order yourself. For instance, to throw a fireball, you must use a firestone to create a fire sigil, then create a spark while standing in the middle of the magic circle to create the fiery projectile.
Launched on March 26, 2019, Nine Dots Studio's co-op adventure exploration game has has surpassed 1 million copies sold, taking the gaming world by surprise with its honest and original approach.
"Today, perhaps more than ever, gamers are embracing challenging RPGs and immersing themselves within their deep, rich plots," said Mario Gerhold, Int. Marketing Director Koch Media (parent company of Deep Silver, Inc.). "Outward is a great example of these games, that are not only great fun, but encourages the creation of emotional bonds from players to their characters and delivers a welcomed, temporary escape into the rewarding fantasy worlds for both single and co-op adventurers."
“It's hard to find the words to say when something that seemed impossible happens to you," said Guillaume Boucher-Vidal, CEO at Nine Dots. "After flopping with our two previous titles, I had very conservative expectations and thought selling 100,000 copies would be a great step up from our previous attempts. To have sold ten times that is surreal. Outward isn't a perfect game, though it has a lot of heart. And we had more heart than resources when we began work on Outward. Now we have experience, an audience, and more resources than ever before. I'm excited to think about what comes next.”
In the latest developer diary from Nine Dot Studios, CEO Guillaume Boucher-Vidal presents the upcoming DLC - The Three Brothers.

- Play solo or cooperatively, locally or online
- Play smart or die: you play an adventurer, not a demigod
- Constant auto-saving means there’s no turning back. You have to put yourself in the character’s shoes and think about the situation rather than just try things and reload every now and then.

Failure is part of life and defeat is part of the journey for any adventurer.
- Every new playthrough offers something different. You can't be good at everything and help everyone. By replaying the game, you can play a different character, join a different faction with its own storyline, gain access to different skills and items. As a bonus, you keep a little something from your previous completed story for your next game via the Legacy system.
