'World of Tanks' (ALL) Console Rolls Out Season 3, 80s Action Heroes, Engine Update

by Rainier on Dec. 15, 2020 @ 10:01 a.m. PST

In World of Tanks Modern Armor player teams are fighting action-packed PvP battles, featuring more than 150 armored fighting vehicles from the pre-WW2 era up to the Korean War.

World of Tanks Console is World of Tanks’ largest and most encompassing expansion of single- and multiplayer content for the beloved armor-themed World War II massively multiplayer online game.

World of Tanks Console plunges players into a terrifying new reality, where history has been rewritten and law and order ceases to exist. Endless wars have left the world fractured, and in the vacuum of power left by the destabilization of global powers, soldiers and civilians now fight for themselves. World of Tanks: Mercenaries invites players across the globe to join the fight; anyone can be a hero in the age of Mercenaries.

World of Tanks Console introduces a brand new Mercenaries “nation” and a full tech tree of never-before-seen combat vehicles, giving players access to a fascinating armada of powerful tanks, helmed by unique Mercenary crews. The new suite of tanks in World of Tanks: Mercenaries are comprised of parts scavenged from vehicles from different nations, becoming original war machines tailored to the traits and needs of the new Mercenary characters. Five vehicles will be available at launch, and as their notoriety across the world’s changed landscape grows, so too will the Mercenary nation.

World of Tanks is excited to announce the launch of Season 3 including a latest engine update coming to Consoles on the 15th of December, giving players an enhanced gaming experience and a complete overhaul of its current game, crafting the graphics, UI and tank experience to a complete new level. From improved visibility, to increased level of detail, lighting, and textures – World of Tanks Console will look and play better than ever before.

With the launch of Season 3 the game will also bring updates to gameplay to let players have a real next gen experience on all the consoles generations, as well as enhancements to vehicle management and commander and equipment systems. Players will also be able to access a new Profile tab which will give them information on their careers, keycards, medals, stats and activity log – alongside a post-game Personal tab.

And that is not all! Following on from the success of recent seasons– from the explosive action of WWE SummerSlam to the fast-paced fury of Hot Wheels - World of Tanks will be bringing an 80s action hero-filled Season 3 to its loyal community of more than 20 million tankers! Players will have the chance to get hold of Tanks and Hero skins for each of the new characters!

Introducing John Rambo, the star of the venerated Rambo series, and all-round badass. With unmatched strength, stamina and military knowledge – Rambo will bring an aggression to tank warfare that players will not want to miss out on. Next comes Snake Plissken, the special forces operator turned criminal – and the protagonist in cult classics Escape From New York; he never takes his eye off the prize.

Last but not least – World of Tanks Console will be welcoming Colonel James Braddock from the Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) action-adventure film Missing in Action to the team. A decorated US Army Officer – Colonel James Braddock brings the grit and gusto of a POW escapee to proceedings, as well as the skillset of a military specialist.

Creative Director TJ Wagner said: “The team and I are so excited to bring tankers our newest and biggest update ever! Utilising our custom console engine, Despair, with latest console hardware generation support will revolutionize World of Tanks Console, bringing evolved aesthetics and visual improvements to the game – as well as an updated HUD, vehicle management system and much more! We have also completely revamped the UI – advancing how players interact with the title.

With Rambo, Snake and Braddock on board for the coming battle, Season 3 will continue the excitement of the previous 2 seasons – and we look forward to seeing heroes rise amongst the ranks of our players!”

Players can immerse themselves in the alternative history setting of World of Tanks Console by taking on the riveting new PvE story campaign, The Heist. This action-packed tale of espionage follows a motley crew of Mercenaries contracted to set up, execute and escape from a raid on a secret war facility. Their mission is to steal nuclear material for a client who harbors his own atomic ambitions, but the crew soon finds itself at the mercy of the combined powers of the United States and the Soviet Union. Players can expect adrenaline-fueled tank battles as they tackle this story alone – like a true Mercenary – or band together with friends for co-operative online multiplayer action!

In addition to the new story campaign, the Mercenaries has a far-reaching impact across the entire game, with the addition of new maps to Multiplayer battles. Players can expect to explore and fight through an array of fan-favorite maps ravaged by war and time, with original Mercenary vehicles available to battle with or against the game’s existing roster of over 680 vehicles.

Expect more electrifying Mercenaries content in the future, with frequent post-release updates.

World of Tanks Console is available for Xbox One and PS4, with backwards compatibility on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S across the globe.
