Area Man Lives. Or does he? If you could join a radio drama already in progress, talk to the characters and interact with the environments the story painted in your mind, you might find yourself in the world of the area man.
Area Man Lives sets the player in the hot seat as a small town radio show DJ. As the game begins, the on-air sign lights up, and the producer reminds the player that they have to speak, out loud, to begin the show. The player continues to interact with their voice, recording commercials and interviewing callers. They play records and pass the time with their odd-duck producer until their shift ends. Only when local townspeople start calling in does the player discover just how strange their coastal community can be. When the stakes are raised, can the player do anything to prevent the death of the area man who insists on saving the day?
If it all feels like too much, don’t worry, you’ll have your lonely producer, the resident skeptic, to guide you on your way, not to mention the vaguely British female voice inside your head.
Using your own voice to talk to characters and your high-tech monkey gloves interact with the world, you begin to piece together what’s happening in this decidedly odd town on the Oregon coast. As you live inside a classic radio drama, talk to its invisible characters and interact with the environments the story paints in your mind, you’ll start to notice how your actions inside the station impact your listening audience.
When an unusual area man calls into the station asking for your help, you have to act fast. Will you trust the area man, or do your best to thwart his plans? Is there anything you can do to save the area man from himself?
“Numinous is such an exemplary group of humans, with an uncanny ability to tell stories that resonate with life. It’s humbling for us to be able to help in some small way as Numinous continues to sub-create small worlds that make the big world just a little bit better,” stated Cyan's Rand Miller.
“Who wouldn’t want to collaborate with Cyan? They are first-class world builders who know how to capture the imagination of their players. We’ve always wanted to re-imagine our first VR title Untethered, and give it the ending its fans deserved. We were waiting for the right partners, and boy have we found them!” said Numinous Games' Ryan Green.
Area Man Lives is slated for a 2020 release and will be available for Quest, Vive, Rift, Index (Steam) and a handful of other headsets.
