Lex Luthor has traveled back through time with news of a dire future: While the heroes and villains spent years battling amongst themselves, Brainiac has been feeding on their powers, building strength to return to Earth and destroy humanity. Can Brainiac be stopped, or is this another nefarious Lex Luthor plot?
As a traditional action-based MMO that combines fast-paced, twitch-based combat with an interactive physics system to deliver a new and unique gameplay experience, DC Universe Online brings the DC Universe to life, allowing players to create their own superheroes - or villains - and join forces with their favorite DC Comics characters to aid in saving – or destroying – the universe.
DCUO offers a dramatic online setting where players can enter the DC Universe and battle alongside or against their favorite DC Comics heroes and villains including such icons as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and The Joker, as well as many other fan favorites such as Green Lantern, The Flash, Catwoman and Martian Manhunter. The action and drama will play out in such well-known locations as Gotham City and Metropolis among others.
DC Universe Online was created in the artistic vision of legendary comic book artist Jim Lee, and set within a world created by famous DC writers including Geoff Johns and Marv Wolfman.
The Birds of Prey has always been a strong, female-led team of kickass Super Heroes. Generally lacking the more convenient Superpowers like invulnerability or super strength or flight, the team relies on their martial skills, intelligence, and can’t-stop-us attitude to get the job done together. Following tech-guru and genius-hacker Oracle (Barbara Gordon, previously Batgirl), their diverse strengths come together with an unshakable moral compass to save the day.
Our story begins in the formative stage of this team. Black Canary, Harley Quinn, The Huntress, and Poison Ivy know of each other, and every hero knows and works regularly with Oracle, but they haven’t become the supergroup they are destined to be. They haven’t needed to – at least until now. In Metropolis, an increasingly unhinged Lex Luthor has just risen to new heights of insanity. He has blown up his own LexCorp Tower, causing the citizens of Metropolis to go berserk and plunging Metropolis into panic. And to get to the bottom of it, the world needs a new team.
Throughout the episode, whether you have chosen to be a Super Hero or Supervillain, you will bump into Black Canary, Harley Quinn, The Huntress, and Poison Ivy as you too scramble to assist Oracle. Just as they are figuring out how to trust each other and work as a team, so will you, which means you will end up working with and fighting against these powerful characters along the way.
With time running out and a deeper threat to investigate, will Oracle be able to mold her...vibrant...friends into the new kickass team she needs? Or will the Super-Villains have their day?
- Birds of Prey will be a large-scale episode, with level-agnostic event versions of content available to all players for a limited time.
- The episode will feature new and returning Super Heroes and Super-Villains, including Oracle, Black Canary, Huntress, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor, and more.
- The storyline will include singleplayer and multiplayer adventures set in familiar and remote locales, including Oracle's iconic Clock Tower base.
- The episode will launch new player rewards, including new gear, styles, artifacts, base items, and feats.
Black Canary is perhaps Oracle’s oldest friend and confidant, taking to the streets to fight crime with her exceptional skills in martial arts and her legendary Canary Cry. Her scream can render enemies hurt or even unconscious in a single breath. Lately her off-work endeavors have seen her using her singing voice in a less menacing way, and her new style reflects that.
The Huntress is another core member of the team traditionally, and she has grown tremendously under Oracle’s guidance. Previously singularly focused on violent revenge, working with a team for an even greater good is unlocking even more potential as a Superhero. Her new style still reflects her darker past fighting the Gotham City mob, but with a new focus on adaptability.
Harley Quinn is a newer addition to the team. Finding herself and stepping out of Joker’s incredibly unhealthy shadow and influence, she is still a bit of a loose cannon (or giant mallet). But Oracle’s patience is honed by years of personal sacrifice, with which she can relate to Harley. Harley’s… let’s say creativity… is already hugely benefiting this new partnership, and her new style reflects that confidence.
Poison Ivy is an on-again off-again Supervillain who is motivated almost entirely to protect the natural world she exists in. Oracle has recognized that noble intent, despite Ivy’s sometimes cruel actions, and has worked to harness Ivy’s drive to save the planet for the greater good. Her perspective and powers amplify the team’s potential in battle, as long as she can stay in control. Her new costume is a statement, that she and the natural world will not be destroyed by careless thugs or the petty agendas of Supervillains who would ignore or pretend the threat is not real.
