'Legends of Runeterra' (ALL) Gets Release Date - Trailer

by Rainier on April 4, 2020 @ 11:39 a.m. PDT

Set in the world of League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra is the strategy card game where skill, creativity, and cleverness determine your success.

In the League of Legends strategy card game, victory comes down to one question: what’s your move?

Build decks with your favorite League champions (and new characters) from the regions of Runeterra, each with their own style and strategic advantage.

Face off in dynamic, alternating combat full of opportunities for outplay.

Earn cards for free as you play or buy exactly what you want in the store—you’re in control of your collection.

Legends of Runeterra is free to play. There are two in-game currencies: Shards you earn through play, and Coins you can purchase anytime.

Legends of Runeterra officially launches on PC and Mobile April 30, with a brand new set of 120+ cards, including a new region!

The next set of cards comes to PC with Patch 1.0, which will go out at approximately 10 AM, April 28 PT.

Card and champion reveals will begin soon and continue through April 27, when we’ll make data for the new set available to third-party developers.

Once we release Patch 1.0 to PC, we’ll begin distributing the mobile client to the Play Store and App Store. Depending on where you live, it may take anywhere from 4 to 48 hours for you to see the app in your store.

On April 30, mobile should be fully live in all launch regions and LoR will officially be launched!

While a Riot account will not be required to access LoR on mobile, we strongly encourage you to use your existing Riot account (or create one), as a Riot account is required for cross-platform play and sharing your account progress between PC and mobile. (We also can’t help you out with account recoveries if it’s not a Riot account.)

If you do not have a Riot account, you can create one when you first log in, or in the “Settings” menu if you originally log in on mobile using your Google Play or App Store account.

The end of beta will also bring an end to LoR’s first and only Beta Season. Once we launch, you’ll earn a Beta Season-exclusive icon based on the highest tier you reached to commemorate your first climb in Ranked LoR.

We’ll then partially reset ranks for LoR’s first post-launch season:

  • Master accounts will drop 800LP (8 divisions)
  • Diamond and Platinum accounts will drop 750LP (7 divisions + 50LP)
  • Gold and Silver accounts will drop 675LP (6 divisions + 75LP)
  • Bronze and Iron accounts will reset to Iron IV

You’ll then have about two months to climb as high as you can before the Ranked reward is granted. Look for more info on the new season in the launch edition of our patch notes.

Beyond mobile and new cards, “launch” mostly signifies that we’re now confident LoR’s core game and progression are in good shape for a wider audience. We’re ready to ramp up content, add more features, and bring in new players while maintaining regular updates every two weeks, and balance changes once per month. After launch, we’ll share further detail on our roadmap for the rest of 2020.

LoR currently supports English, Korean, Japanese, French, Italian, German, and Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Latin America), and Portuguese (Brazil). With launch, we’ll add Traditional Chinese (text only), Turkish, and Russian.

As you play, you’ll complete quests and earn experience to advance and automatically unlock new cards, but which region you unlock first is totally up to you. You decide where your cards come from, and can switch regions whenever you want, which makes assembling your dream deck a whole lot easier.

Once a week, you’ll also unlock chests from the Vault. The Vault levels up as you play and upgrades the chests inside, which increases the number of cards you get from each. Individually, both the cards and chests have a chance to upgrade into something even better, and at level 10 and above, you’re guaranteed a champion.

Sometimes you’ll encounter wildcards, which can be turned into any card you want—no guessing required. A limited number of additional wildcards are available in the store, which is replenished with a new stock each week. Sometimes you just want a guaranteed way to get specific cards. So instead of waiting for the right drop, you can unlock cards for your collection using the Shards you’ve earned or the wildcards you’ve acquired through play or purchase.

Bottom line: In Legends of Runeterra, you will never pay for randomized packs, and you have a bunch of different ways to get the cards you actually want and build multiple decks for both casual duels and the competitive meta.

When it comes to cosmetics, there are free base options that every player starts with: the Summoner’s Rift Board and the Poro Guardian. Stay tuned for more details on other ways to personalize your LoR experience in the future.

Currently, Legends of Runeterra features six major regions of Runeterra—Demacia, Noxus, Ionia, Piltover & Zaun, Freljord, and the Shadow Isles—and 24 champions (four from each of those regions). League players will probably notice that there’s a lot more of Runeterra to still be explored...

Every character and card in the game comes from a region of Runeterra, the same world that the champions from League of Legends hail from. You’ll encounter some familiar faces and discover completely new ones.

Legends of Runeterra is coming to PC, Android and iOS on April 30, 2020.
