Colonization of a new planet is never an easy task. If the unfavorable living conditions, hostile flora, and fauna, are not enough, quite often the natives are not willing to give up their homeland without a fight. You could think that having super-advanced weapons and technologies at hand should be enough of an advantage. That is unless you need oxygen for breathing when the natives don't, you're pretty much the last man standing, and you're facing hordes of primitive but determined locals. Then the chances are even, and a lot depends on your skill, strategic thinking, and will to survive.
You are the pilot of a 'BE-A Walker' (Biped Enhanced Assault Walker) battle mech. Your primary mission is to defeat the natives and protect the colonists. However, annihilating the native race is not the only way to stop the war. You can choose your own path and make the decision that suits you best. Prove your commitment to the human race and kill anyone who stands in your way or choose a more humanitarian outcome and protect the victims of the greedy invaders. The choice is entirely yours.
"When we were designing the game, we decided to make the gameplay uncomplicated and straightforward, but with an interesting and topical story.” Says Stanislav Zagniy, art and game designer of Tequilabyte Studio.
“Since BE-A Walker is a game about the colonization of an alien planet, we thought the best choice would be to refer to the history of American colonization. We wanted to show the overall danger of not only taking such actions but also the negative consequences of experimentation with nature.
“Of course, we tried to touch on the moral and ethical issues of colonization by showing the relationship between a technologically advanced civilization and natives living in harmony with nature. For the characters in our game, the settlement is not a way to get rich at the expense of a 'technologically backward' civilization but is, in fact, the only path to human survival. For all the game's bloodthirsty nature and cruelty, each native's death is a tragic consequence of the struggle for survival and should not bring any pleasure or satisfaction to the player. In general, we tried to refrain from the player feeling like a 'hero and savior of the world'. He is simply hostage to a situation in which there is no 'right' decision to make."
