'The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners' (ALL) Rolls Out The Meatgrinder Update

by Rainier on July 14, 2020 @ 11:29 a.m. PDT

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is a VR game where you must make gut-wrenching choices and find out who you are in their fight for survival against not just walkers, but the constant threats of violence, disease, and famine.

It’s been three years since the outbreak. The once great city of New Orleans is now flooded and surrounded by a herd of walkers, making escape near-impossible. The city is divided into districts accessible only by skiff and controlled by a community known as ‘The Tower’.

With dwindling supplies, the Tower’s grip on the city is threatened when a brutal group called the Reclaimed rises against them. Anyone not in a faction must fend for themselves...few survive. Rumors suggest that a Cold War era bunker exists, loaded with years’ worth of food, medical supplies, and weapons.

A race to find this hidden ‘Reserve’ begins, and with it, a bloody battle for power

In The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, freedom of choice and visceral combat offer players a new way to live survival horror in a deep-rooted VR gaming experience. Scale buildings to ambush enemies from above, hold down a walker’s head to rip a knife out of its skull or attack from a distance with throwing weapons, bows and long-range firearms. Players can choose from an arsenal of weapons or craft their own to fit their play style and survive their way. Physics-based combat makes every swing of an axe or jab of a knife resonate with impact.

The Meatgrinder Update introduces players to an all-new game mode, titled, ‘The Trial,’ where they’ll face off against relentless waves of walkers. As players survive each round they’ll be rewarded with points based on their performance, which they’ll use to purchase a variety of weapons and crafting items to plan for the next, increasingly difficult wave of enemies. In order to survive, players will need to get creative in their kills and manage resources appropriately!

“Our team has been hard at work to continuously improve The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners since its launch, and The Meatgrinder Update is the first major update that offers players an entirely new way to play," said Roy Orr, Lead Designer. "We can’t wait for players to put their skills to their test as they face new challenges in ‘The Trial’ and fight to survive against hordes of walkers.”

In addition, the update adds the new ‘Absolution’ skin for the katana weapon. Players can slice and dice their enemies in both The Trial and campaign modes. Players can also try out a new difficulty option which will prioritize the game’s story over gameplay challenges, allowing them to explore the flooded streets of New Orleans and watch the events of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners unfold.

The Meatgrinder Update is available for free for players who own The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, including PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, Rift S, Quest (via Link cable only) Index, HTC Vive and Windows MR headsets.

Choices in The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners will affect not just how the combat plays out but the fate of the city and its other survivors. New Orleans is at war and the living are not just fending off the dead, but each other as well. Will you risk life and limb to protect those in need or eliminate anyone who stands in their way? Will you join one of the warring factions, or play them against each other for personal gain?

Crafting, exploration, freedom of choice and visceral combat make this a deep, 15+ hour game built for VR. Uncover its many secrets and cut down both the dead and the living with an arsenal of melee, ranged and makeshift weapons, all physics-based objects you can realistically wield. Scale the side of a building to ambush enemies from above, hold down a walker’s head to rip your knife out of its skull or just convince some fools to take a bullet for you. Discover new, horrifying ways to survive and pursue your goals, then deal with the consequences.

As players dive deeper into this unforgiving journey they will uncover the mystery at the heart of the conflict that threatens to tear the city apart.

The fate of the city and its survivors rests in your hands.
