Paper Beast lets intrepid player-explorers discover a blossoming virtual world where the environments and quirky animals have independently evolved from lost code and forgotten data.
Players will interact with ever-evolving environments and will form delicate bonds with emotionally stirring creatures. Following an unspoken narrative, players will interact with fascinating wildlife that adapts its behavior to the player’s actions. The game leads you to discover fauna and flora made from origami paper, folded metal, coral… Some elements seem familiar, such as water and sand, while others are more surreal, such as the creatures.
As you go through the game, you solve puzzles and obstacles, discovering a lot of surprises. The creatures help the player progress through their journey intuitively, without a word, since the game’s narrative is non-verbal. You share a common goal with these animals: to progress and evolve in this world. You’ll create a strong bond as you interact and travel together.
Pixel Reef announced that Paper Beast will be coming to Steam, Viveport and the Oculus store on July 24, 2020, and will be compatible with Valve Index, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality for $19,99 / €19,99.
The PC version of the game will see a host of new features including:
- Continuous move support
- Upgraded visuals: (more precise textures and shadows, improved water and sand rendering, full support of latest gen VR headsets’ resolution)
In sandbox mode:
- Bigger sandbox area
- Expanded ecosystem, enriched by an evolution of the vegetation
- A greater number of entities in the field allowing more combinations
- A new species
- Smoother gameplay
“The PC version represents a more polished version of the game in almost all aspects but also offers continuous move support, which we are very proud of because we handled it without compromise. Special care was also given to the rendering of water and sand. You will be able to see the turmoil at the surface of the water, and the delicate flow of the sand. You’ll be able to dive even deeper into the fantastic world of Paper Beast”.
An entirely stand-alone game mode, Sandbox allows players to create their own unique, freeform virtual domains, from the fantastical creatures that inhabit it, to the weather and the terrain itself.
The new Sandbox mode approximates a god game experience, as active experimentation with Paper Beast’s intriguing ecosystem plays a major role. Players can form and manipulate the environment, influence the weather and experiment with the deep physics engine that powers Paper Beast.
Experience the distinct characteristics of Paper Beast's wildlife in this brand-new mode, as creature behavior is profoundly dependent on the elements. Special focus is given to immersion and environmental simulation. Players can interact with eleven different hybrid animal species, as well as plants, geological elements, and even the sun.
The Paper Beast sandbox mode will coexist with a captivating story in which intrepid player-explorers discover a blossoming virtual world where the environments and quirky animals have independently evolved from lost code and forgotten data. Following an unspoken narrative, players will solve environmental puzzles and interact with fascinating wildlife that adapts its behaviour to the player’s actions.
Paper Beast is a poetic fusion of VR technology and immersive gameplay experiences. A deep simulation system has been developed to bring the game universe to life. To emphasise the experience three talents are working full time on the spatial audio. The original soundtrack from British music artist Roly Porter highlights the immersion as you find your way in this colorful and poetic universe. And like the icing on the cake The Japanese All Girl Art Punk Rock Band TsuShiMaMire also took part in the adventure!
Currently available for PSVR, Paper Beast is coming to Steam VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive on July 24, 2020 for $19,99 / €19,99.
