Throughout history, humans have been fascinated with magic, longing for the power to bend reality to our will. This longing is the drive behind The Wizard and its design. To not just play a wizard, but become one: Learning spell patterns and casting them in a unique, gesture-based spell system; learning to think like a wizard, to wield your magic with caution and choosing your strategy wisely.

The Wizard: WizHarder Edition is a turn-based dungeon puzzler with a unique spell casting system, upgraded retro looks and a delightfully quirky story. Step into the robe of Kevin, the exceptionally handsome but woefully inattentive wizardry student, whose gorgeous face has just been stolen. Follow the thief through the dangerous dungeons beneath the academy, encounter mythical monsters, and learn powerful magic along the way!

The Wizard was one of Hypnotic Owl’s first major undertakings. What first started as a small internal prototype quickly grew into a full-blown genre title. Along the way, however, the limitations of its web framework started to show, and funds were running out. A decision was made: Polish and release the game as is and restart development when funds could be secured.

After many trials and tribulations, and 6 years of enthusiastic players demanding more, that moment has finally come: The Wizard: WizHarder Edition is one of the first projects to receive a grant from the newly-established games fund by the German government. With that, Hypnotic Owl is now able to make the Wizard game they always envisioned.

In addition to new levels and spells, this will feature a brand new roguelike mode with daily challenges to allow for endless replayability. Players will also be able to create and share their own levels with a Mario Maker-style level editor.

Last but not least, the game will receive a complete visual and mechanical overhaul, marrying 16-bit graphics with modern rendering techniques, to make it look and feel as good as you remember your old favorites being.
