BattleJuice Alchemist has a dark but cartoonish look and feel to it while it sounds like Stranger Things with explosions. The game is mainly played in classic RPG top down view while close combat is fought in third person and dilated realtime. In these thrilling fights players must rely on a "deck" of flasks they draw from.
Fans of action RPGs of the early 2000s might be familiar to the interface of BattleJuice Alchemist: red globe to the left, blue globe to the right. Try to keep the red one full and empty the blue one for destruction. But there is more depth to the resource management of this game. The protagonist named Juice has access to a third resource, a white fluid that supercharges his abilites. Furthermore, his skills are determined by the alchemical flasks he currently has at hand. The skinny alchemist Juice is by far no Geralt von Riva. But being the nerdy type of guy does not stop him from throwing flasks at possessed animals, humans and even facing demons. All this takes place on beautiful procedurally generated maps.
There is a lot to do as Juice, the alchemist: beside the very essential looting there is crafting, exploring, conversing, trading and solving riddles. Juice can even learn ritual magic.
"With BattleJuice Alchemist I am fulfilling my childhood dream to make a video game all by myself that contains all the things I love. It is reminiscent of action RPG classics, Mike Mignola's Hellboy comics and even the classic horror movies of the 1930s." - Alain Brunotte
Key Features:
- Loot and Craft: As an alchemist you wear no armor and wield no sword, but you rain down fire on your enemies. Find flasks with random affixes in the wilderness or craft them at your workbench. In deck-building fashion you create a compilation of flasks which you randomly draw from.
- Unique Skill System: In BattleJuice Alchemist, your flasks are your skills. Every flask can be used the normal way and at times in a supercharged, "Jucified" way for stronger effects. Some flasks have affixes that drastically change their effects when used, which allows you to develop your own playstyle.
- Classic isometric ARPG action: Fight your enemies from afar in classic top down view. Throw explosive or freezing flasks at them, prepare ambushes of explosive barrels. Use the “Frog Hop” flask to jump away from danger or right into close combat.
- Engaging Realtime Close Combat: Enter close combat with an enemy, where you can interact hands on by dodging or using smoke flasks to avoid being hit. Manage your resources and flasks during these intense one on one battles to succeed.
- Procedural Landscapes: The world of BattleJuice Alchemist is separated into vast levels of procedural landscape. Every valley, sea, river, mountain, building, stone, tree and item is placed by a unique algorithm. This allows you to continue exploring after you completed the main story and no playthrough will be the same.
- Dark Lands to Discover: You are influenced by daytime and weather effects and so are your enemies. But they are also buffed by the evermore spawning demons’ presence. Find dark altars to hold their influence at bay and discover many other secrets.
BattleJuice Alchemist is coming to PC (Steam) be in 2021.
