'Ready or Not' Alpha Update Adds New PVP Modes, Game Update Details

by Rainier on Aug. 19, 2020 @ 12:00 a.m. PDT

Ready or Not is a tactical first person shooter which places you in the boots of an elite SWAT team, tasked with defusing hostile situations in intense, claustrophobic environments.

At the core of Ready Or Not, Void Interactive has aimed to develop a intense, brutal yet fun tactical first-person shooter. Commanding a squad of A.I teammates, teaming up with your friends in co-op or playing competitive multiplayer modes, Ready or Not will task the player to confront cruel situations set in a twisted facsimile of the United States West Coast Region.

Ready Or Not presents complex S.W.A.T situations, that the player can approach in a variety of ways. Be it an aggressive assault, all guns blazing, or a quite flanking maneuver to coerce suspects without any fatalities. RoN (Ready or Not) leaves the discussion making to the players, allowing unique situations to unfold for each playthrough and each playing style.

Immersing the players into the world of S.W.A.T means that brutal realities will be shown. The destruction of normally peaceful areas around the city comes with a great cost. Innocent lives are caught in the crossfire, and VOID interactive has set out to represent this factor of life. Common areas such as gas stations and clubs but also schools and city streets are areas for the players to restore order to chaos and bring peace to balance.

The latest update to the Ready Or Not Alpha is now live on Steam.

This update brings a vast amount of changes and additions, including a new variant for the level Training, new PVP gamemodes, and other features and improvements across the board.

We will also release another follow-up update to this one very soon, which will come with new bug fixes and an entirely new map: Shoothouse.

New Gamemodes Now in Alpha

VIP Escort

S.W.A.T. must escort the randomly-selected player VIP to an extraction point within the level to win the round. The enemy must prevent this by intercepting, capturing, and holding the VIP hostage for a certain amount of time. If the timer runs out and S.W.A.T. hasn't successfully freed the VIP, the enemy wins the round.

Arrest and Rescue

Both teams have a limited set of lives. Players gain lives by arresting enemies. The objective is to arrest all the members of the enemy team using less-lethal equipment, while simultaneously rescuing any teammates who are arrested. The first team to arrest the entire opposing team wins the round.

Team Deathmatch

A version of the classic multiplayer gamemode: hunt down and neutralize enemy players to score points. The first team to hit the point limit wins the round. In Ready Or Not, however, arresting your opponent will net significantly more points than just taking them down.

These gamemodes are now part of the official servers' rotation. Players can join a multiplayer game by using our new matchmaking function, create their own server and invite their friends, or find and join a game through the Server Browser, which has now made it back into the Alpha.

Less-Lethal Love

To accompany the focus on tactical and less-lethal gameplay of these new gamemodes, we have also made improvements to the VFX, models, audio, and animations for the less-lethal weapons.

Weapon Bashing

Moreover, we are adding in weapon bashing — a melee function that allows players to quickly stun enemies at close range.

Other Changes and Improvements

Additionally, this new Alpha update will bring in other new features and improvements. While Supporters can read the full update changelog in the Ready Or Not private forums, below are listed some of the main new features players will find in-game.

  • The Training level now has a night variant available. While Supporters may remember a night version being present in one of the earlier Alpha builds, this version has gone through multiple reiterations and optimization passes.
  • Besides less-lethal weapons, multiple other first-person weapon animations are currently going under an overhaul, and you'll start seeing new, better-looking ones in-game.
  • Point shooting has now been introduced to the game: the crosshair will no longer recenter to the middle of the screen when swaying left and right, so players will need to learn to control the sway to aim at targets on screen.
  • Changing character speed will now also change the angle at which the player character holds their gun, which allows for better maneuverability in tight spaces.
  • We have added in a new startup cinematic when the game is launched to introduce some gameplay tips to new (or unaware!) players.
  • The first pass of our audio propagation system for players has now been added to the game, alongside other  sound improvements.
  • As mentioned in one of our previous development updates, we have continued to improve the pre-match weapon customization UI, making it more accessible and intuitive. This is one reiteration of many and we still plan to improve it further down the road.
  • As also mentioned in a previous update, we have also added in first-person animations for reloading while aiming down sighs without losing target acquisition.

Up next...

The update is already available for download for Supporters via Steam. If it is not downloading automatically, try restarting Steam. As stated, we will release a second update very soon to introduce the new level Shoothouse and bring more bug fixes and performance improvements. As always, we are looking forward to hearing our Supporters' feedback on the new content.

Great care has been placed into the player’s control, with fluid leaning systems and incremental walking speeds, PC gamers will be able to feel the benefits of the consoles analogue sticks, but still have the sharpness of the mouse, resulting in fierce and adrenaline pumping firefights. The care and detail that has gone into the control also will give the players a sense of stealth control, allowing them to appropriately maneuver into a correct position to execute their plans. For example, a player may want to quietly and slowly walk to a door to use a mirrorgun (camera on a stick) to observe the room beyond the door.

Another important part of the player's control is related to doors. The development team at VOID has placed great detail into how a player may interact with a door. While a door can do a simple task of being opened and closed, there are many ways to approach them when the situation calls for it. In a dramatic rush, one may kick the door open with brutal strength or blow it up. On the other hand, when approaching with complete silence, one may choose to lockpick open a door, and incrementally open it to stealthfully observe the content of the room.

Void Interactive’s development team knew that immersion, even of simple things like walking and opening doors can be expanded to fulfil the players experience to a new level, offering great amounts of control, still with a simple and easy to use feel for all players of any skill level.

Key Features:

  • Singleplayer, Co-op, PVP Multiplayer Modes
  • Immersive player controls, allowing great freedom for player choice
  • Large library of Lethal/Non-lethal firearms, objects and gadgets that creates endless approaches and solutions to situations
  • An atmospheric world, rich with details
  • Beautiful graphics
