'PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' (ALL) Rolls Out v8.3 Update, New Arena Mode

by Rainier on Sept. 16, 2020 @ 8:53 a.m. PDT

PUBG: Battlegrounds expands the core Battle Royale experience into a highly competitive player vs. player (PvP) game in a vivid open world.

Welcome to the ultimate battle for life and death

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will expand the core Battle Royale experience enjoyed by millions of players into a highly competitive player vs. player (PvP) game in a dynamic open world. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will put up to 64 players on a remote island for a winner-takes-all showdown where strategic gameplay is as important as shooting skills. Players will enter a last-man-standing battle where they try to locate weapons, vehicles and supplies in a graphically and tactically rich battleground that eventually forces players into a shrinking safe area as they engage in a tense and spectacular fight to the death.

When the match starts, players have no items or weapons. To progress, they can try to commandeer a vehicle to discover a high-value location, search for weapons or employ other diversified tactics with a goal of being the last man standing. All weapons can be upgraded with attachments such as sights and suppressors and both road and off-road vehicles will be available to players.

Kill or be killed in a fight to be the last man standing.

With Season 8 coming to a close, Update 8.3 brings a new item that temporarily negates Bluezone damage, a new ferry system to Erangel, two new Team Deathmatch stages on Sanhok, and a number of quality of life updates.

  • Jammer Pack: To start, we are unleashing the Jammer Pack onto non-ranked Karakin and Sanhok map queues. The Jammer Pack prevents players from taking damage while inside the Blue Zone for a short time at the expense of a level 3 bag slot. Each pack’s energy will slowly deplete over time, but will revert to a regular backpack afterwards. The cost could definitely be worth it as that Blue Zone closes in!
  • Erangel Ferries: PUBG's most recognizable map, Erangel, is getting a transit upgrade with Ferries from the mainland to Sosnovka Island. Each of the Ferries will stay stationed at each dock for a short amount of time prior to their arrival departure. All Aboard!
  • Misc. Gameplay Updates: Survivors will also notice the new assist system has expanded beyond Ranked Mode to track all those players who lend a helping hand. Speaking of a helping hand, we have added teammate combat indicators to help players quickly identify when a team member is in trouble.

In celebration of PUBG Update 8.3 launching on PC today, PUBG Corporation has unveiled a new game mode called Arena Mode. Arena Mode will be launching on PUBG LABS, which is an in-game environment where players can test out and explore various experimental settings, features, and modes in development.

Arena Mode Overview:

  • Arena Mode is a 64 person, squad-based match that drops you into one of several sectioned-off zones on Erangel, Miramar, or Sanhok.
  • You’ll fight it out with up to two other squads to claim victory in your arena. Should you lose, your team will lose one of its 3 chances, which eliminates you once they’re gone. Claim victory, and move onto the next round with a stronger position than those who failed.
  • When 3 or fewer squads remain, they’ll enter a Sudden Death arena where the winner takes all, regardless of how many chances you have left.
  • The new mode also introduces a loadout menu where players can purchase weapons (instead of looting them) based on currency earned by eliminating other players. Finally, knocked allies can be revived much faster (in five seconds), helping maintain each team’s advantage in small fights.

Arena Mode Availability: Arena Mode will be available in LABS for two weeks.

  • PC
    • Week One: September 18 - 21
    • Week Two: September 25 - 28
  • Console
    • Week One: September 25 - 28
    • Week Two: October 2 - 5

Key Features:

  • Custom Games: Being implemented after Early Access, this feature will allow select groups of players to create and host their own games with special server configurations, such as the number of players, option to spectate the round, play or set the game as private with password and more. Additional information about custom games will be announced after Early Access launch.
  • Realistic Gunplay: Players use real-world weapons found via supply drops to create an authentic and visceral experience.
  • Massive 8km x 8km World: Players begin as weak survivors and develop into powerful soldiers on a massive, deserted island set in Eastern Europe.
  • Built with Unreal Engine 4: PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds utilizes the latest development tools to deliver realistic visuals, animations and gameplay.
  • In-Depth Loot System: Players will uncover a wide variety of weapons, armor, attachments, and much more as they explore – and battle – across the world.
  • Player-Focused Metagame Tools: Leaderboards and statistics plus replays and spectator mode tools are coming after Early Access launch.
  • Loads of Localization: Launching into twelve languages (English, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Arabic) with translations coming directly from the community.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is currently available on PS4, Xbox One and PC (Steam).
