'Civilization VI' (ALL) New Frontier Pass Introduces Basil II of Byzantium - Trailer

by Rainier on Sept. 17, 2020 @ 3:58 p.m. PDT

Sid Meier's Civilization VI is a turn-based strategy that offers players new ways to interact with their world, expand their empire across the map, advance their culture, and compete against history’s greatest leaders to build a civilization to stand the test of time.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI sets another milestone in the Civilization franchise, which has sold-in over 34 million units worldwide and changed the gaming landscape by bringing the strategy genre to unparalleled heights.

In Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, cities will physically expand across the map to create new, deep strategic layers, active research in technology and culture will unlock new potential ways to play; and the large variety of leaders will pursue their own agendas based on their historical character traits as players race to achieve victory however they choose to play.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI - New Frontier Pass is a new season pass that brings eight new civilizations, nine new leaders, six new game modes and more to the critically-acclaimed strategy game.

The third DLC pack in the Civilization VI – New Frontier PassByzantium and Gaul Pack – will be launching on September 24. It will be available to anyone who owns the Civilization VI – New Frontier Pass or available for individual purchase for $8.99.

Included in the Byzantium and Gaul Pack are two new leaders and civilizations – Byzantium and Gaul – as well as two new World Wonders and a new map script – the Highlands. The Byzantium and Gaul Pack also includes a new optional game mode called Dramatic Ages, where civilizations always enter Golden or Dark Ages every era that feature more potent bonuses and penalties. Instead of Dedications, players will gain access to powerful new Social Policies like Golden Policies and updated Dark Policies that offer more flexibility and power. Dark Ages in particular are more dangerous than ever, as players in Dark Ages will have a portion of their empire immediately fall into Free Cities, and Free Cities can exert pressure on other cities.

Dramatic Ages is an optional game mode that requires the Rise and Fall or Gathering Storm expansion to play.

Byzantium can subjugate enemies with religious and military might, supported by their two unique units, the Dromon Ship and the Tagma.

Byzantium’s “Taxis” ability gives units additional Combat Strength or Religious Strength for each Holy City converted to Byzantium's Religion. Byzantium's Religion spreads when an enemy unit is defeated and Cities with Holy Sites earn bonus Great Prophet points. Basil II’s “Porphyrogénnētos” ability allows Heavy and Light Cavalry units to do full damage against cities following the same religion as Byzantium, and gains the Tagma unique unit when the Divine Right civic is discovered. The Tagma unique unit replaces the Knight and grants nearby land units additional Combat Strength or Religious Strength, while the Dromon Ship replaces the Quadrireme and has additional range and additional Combat Strength against units. His unique district is the Hippodrome, which replaces the Entertainment Complex district, is cheaper to build and provides additional Amenities. It also grants a Heavy Cavalry unit when the Hippodrome and its buildings are constructed.

Key Features:

  • EXPANSIVE EMPIRES: See the marvels of your empire spread across the map like never before. Each city spans multiple tiles so you can custom build your cities to take full advantage of the local terrain;
  • ACTIVE RESEARCH: Unlock boosts that speed your civilization’s progress through history. To advance more quickly, use your units to actively explore, develop your environment, and discover new cultures;
  • DYNAMIC DIPLOMACY: Interactions with other civilizations change over the course of the game, from primitive first interactions where conflict is a fact of life, to late game alliances and negotiations;
  • COMBINED ARMS: Expanding on the “one unit per tile” design, support units can now be embedded with other units, like anti-tank support with infantry, or a warrior with settlers. Similar units can also be combined to form powerful “Corps” units;
  • ENHANCED MULTIPLAYER: In addition to traditional multiplayer modes, cooperate and compete with your friends in a wide variety of situations all designed to be easily completed in a single session;
  • A CIV FOR ALL PLAYERS: Civilization VI provides veteran players new ways to build and tune their civilization for the greatest chance of success. New tutorial systems are designed to introduce new players to the underlying concepts of Civilization so they can easily get started on a path to victory.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
