'Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War' (ALL) Zombies Free Access Week, Mid-season Update Details

by Rainier on Jan. 11, 2021 @ 10:58 a.m. PST

A direct sequel to the original, fan-favorite Black Ops, and set in the early 1980s, Black Ops Cold War, drops players into the depth of the Cold War’s volatile geopolitical universe in a gripping experience where nothing is as it seems.

In addition to the story campaign, Black Ops Cold War will bring an arsenal of Cold War weapons and equipment into the next generation of Black Ops Multiplayer combat, and an all-new co-operative gameplay experience with Zombies.

In pure Black Ops style, Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fuses elements of 1980s pop culture through a mind-bending conspiracy story, where deception and subterfuge are the norm in the gripping single-player Campaign. In this sequel to the original Call Of Duty: Black Ops, players encounter historic figures and learn hard truths as they battle around the globe through iconic locales like East Berlin, Turkey, Vietnam, Soviet-era Moscow, and more. As elite operatives, players attempt to stop a plot decades in the making as they follow the trail of a shadowy figure named Perseus, who is on a mission to destabilize the global balance of power and change the course of history. Beyond the Campaign, players will bring a wide selection of Cold War weapons and equipment into the next generation of Multiplayer combat and an all-new Zombies experience.

The title features cross-play support across current and next generation systems with cross progression across all modes. Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will also offer a Battle Pass system and deliver a steady stream of free post-launch content, including multiplayer maps and modes, Zombies experiences along with a robust schedule of in-game community events.

After uncovering initial secrets about the Dark Aether, Requiem is calling on all reinforcements to investigate anomalies related to this mysterious power source. If you have yet to be called into action against the undead horde, get ready to gear up for a full week of free zombie-slaying action.

For the first time in Call of Duty history, Treyarch’s legendary Zombies mode will be available for free through the Zombies Free Access Week, starts January 14 and runs through January 21, 2021.

This fearsome free access period will be available to all players through their respective platform’s store and includes the following game modes:

Die Maschine

An abandoned WWII-era laboratory in Poland containing a massive particle collider has opened a rift to unexplainable monstrosities and animated undead forces. As part of the international response team known as Requiem, you’ll infiltrate the DZ and try to survive waves of zombies through multiple rounds as you either uncover the secrets of “Die Maschine,” or exfiltrate early with your life intact (and some great rewards to boot).

With its starting area paying homage to the original World at War Zombies map that started it all, “Die Maschine” is a round-based Zombies experience where up to four players can drop in and attempt to survive the horrors that lie in wait. Work together by using dozens of weapons, lethal and tactical equipment, powerful Scorestreaks, and special Field Upgrades – such as an Energy Mine or an instant-heal through the Healing Aura – that charge up by killing zombies.

Unlocked some new Black Ops Cold War weapons via the Battle Pass system? Bring them into the fight through your starting loadout and upgrade them along the way. You can also outfit yourself with a variety of Wall Buy weapons, take a chance with a random weapon pulled from the Mystery Box, or give any weapon a serious boost through the Pack-a-Punch Machine.

Cranked

Need a bit more urgency to stay alive in “Die Maschine,” outside of being overwhelmed by waves of zombies? Give Cranked a try.

As per usual, you and your squad will be airlifted in with a loadout of your choice. However, once the first zombie hits the floor, the Cranked Timer starts ticking away. Your Operator will explode if they fail to kill another zombie before the timer hits zero, and the timer gets shorter and shorter as the game progresses! Keep an eye out for the Cranked Timer Power-up, which temporarily freezes the timer for all players.

Watch the clock – and your six – to survive this fast-paced new Zombies game mode... and be sure to put the locational Ping system to use when playing with your squad.

Onslaught (PlayStation Exclusive, not available on other platforms until Nov. 1, 2021)

Those who play on PlayStation can also access Onslaught, the fast-paced new two-player Zombies experience on Black Ops Cold War’s Multiplayer maps.

In this mode, your duo will use whatever is in your loadouts to fight against hyper-aggressive waves of undead forces. Unlike in traditional round-based Zombies, a Dark Aether Orb will confine you to a specific space on the map until it is charged by the souls of the undead.

As the safe area shifts, expect increasingly difficult surges of enemies, including incredibly powerful Elites, to test your duo’s survival skills. Slay enough of these Elites, and you’ll earn special Bronze, Silver, or Gold rankings and exclusive* Weapon Blueprints.

Free Access Begins Soon!

These modes (Onslaught mode is a PlayStation-exclusive mode) are available for free to players from January 14 until January 21, so download Zombies Free Access today to join the ever-growing ranks of Requiem and learn from the veterans who can guide you toward unlocking the secrets of “Die Maschine”.

Enjoyed this free access period? All your progress from it will carry over to the full game upon purchase.

Here is what you can expect to see over the next week:

The Lead: Black Ops Cold War Mid-Season Update Coming January 14th

Black Ops Cold War Season One is getting some major reinforcements with more new content in Multiplayer and Zombies on Thursday, Jan. 14.

Get ready for a massive new arena when your squad drops into Sanatorium, a low-wooded hills area where your team will unearth the clandestine secrets of Project Golova. Jump into a fleet of land, sea, and air vehicles and take the fight to the enemy in this sprawling new map.

Also coming with this update for Multiplayer is a brand-new 6v6 mode Dropkick, a frantic game of hot potato where two squads battle for control of a briefcase containing nuclear codes. Be the first team to score 200 points and set off an explosive ending!

Over in Zombies, get ready to crank up the intensity in Cranked, a frenetic mode where every kill resets the timer counting down your eventual doom. Spend too much time without a zombie takedown, and you’ll explode!

For those on PlayStation, Zombies Onslaught will get a new map with Raid, along with new Dark Aether intel to discover.

What’s in Store for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone

Get ready for the Disavowed Assassin to be released in Black Ops Cold War and Warzone on Jan. 14.

This five-item bundle contains three Legendary items: a unique melee weapon Blueprint, a killer Operator Skin, and a dangerous Finishing Move known as the “Dangerous Approach.” It also includes an Epic Emblem and Calling Card.

Also available later this week is the Tracer Pack Indigo bundle, which contains two Legendary Blueprints – the “Great Pacific” assault rifle and the “Turbo Powered” SMG – that both fire indigo tracer rounds, as well as a new Emblem, Sticker, Charm and Calling Card. The Tracer Pack Indigo bundle will be available for purchase in the in-game Store on Jan. 17.

Call of Duty: Mobile

This week marks the launch of the Counter Intelligence event, where players send top secret spies to infiltrate cities on a virtual map of the Soviet Union.

Activate spies in Multiplayer and Battle Royale, then deploy these clandestine agents toward the grand prize: Moscow!

Players will earn Epic rewards for their progress, with the new “Terrance Brooks – Deep Snow” skin for making it through all the cities, and an opportunity to earn the lethal “Outlaw – Artic Threat” sniper blueprint weapon for making it to Moscow.

Additional rewards include other rare and uncommon weapons and items, such as the Rare “Special Ops 1 – Burial Ground” skin.

This Week in Competitive Warzone

Gear up for another thrilling Warzone tournament coming to you on January 15: Warzone Ravenstorm.

The London Royal Ravens will be hosting a Warzone tournament with a $25,000 prize pool starting at 10AM PST/1PM EST on the 15th. Fans can tune in on YouTube or Twitch to watch all of the action.

Black Ops Cold War will also support and build on the hit, free-to-play experience Call Of Duty: Warzone. Black Ops Cold War includes shared progression features with Warzone, adding brand new inventory items that can be used in both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. Warzone players will still have access to all of their Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare content, including Operators and Weapon Blueprints previously earned.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC on Battle.net.
