'Magic: The Gathering Arena' Launches Early Access Version On Android

by Rainier on Jan. 29, 2021 @ 10:37 a.m. PST

Magic: The Gathering Arena is an all-new free-to-play digital card game based off the Magic: The Gathering trading card game.

Wizards of the Coast's new Digital Games Studio is creating a Magic experience with the full rules and ongoing content support for new card sets, just like the original card game. The game is designed and built for digital gamers without compromising Magic's core gameplay. Every element of the game design is focused on an engaging and dynamic experience, true to authentic Magic, to provide players and viewers fast-paced, exciting, and easy-to-follow matches.

In Magic: The Gathering Arena players can jump right into Quick and Competitive Play using one of the five carefully crafted pre-built decks earned in the tutorial and can customize their own decks from an expansive library of current Magic cards. The game is free to download and lets players battle for rewards including in-game currency, cards, and booster packs. Players can also earn an additional five pre-built decks by completing daily quests.

Magic: The Gathering Arena is now available in Early Access on Google Play for select Android devices.

Players that meet the recommended hardware requirements can download and play the game for free, with additional Android device, tablet and iOS support coming later this year.

Alongside the mobile version of Magic: The Gathering Arena launches Kaldheim, the brand new Viking-themed card set. Introducing players to new characters, card mechanics and fresh art designs, coming together in Magic’s most metal card set yet. Discover more information about Kaldheim’s new mechanics in the DailyMTG post here, and further details throughout the DailyMTG archives.

On mobile, Magic: The Gathering Arena players can expect the complete desktop experience, optimised to support smaller screen sizes and touch-based control gestures. Featuring cross-platform support, players are now able to log into their Wizards Account wherever they are, complete quests, play competitively, and build decks regardless of platform. Social features, such as the in-game friends list and messaging, aren’t supported during Early Access.

Magic: The Gathering Arena on mobile features:

  • Magic Anywhere and Everywhere - Players can play, manage and grow their Magic: The Gathering Arena collection wherever they go. All current card sets, formats, events, deck building and more all support on mobile, including Kaldheim, also launching today;
  • Cross Play and Cross Platform Support - Players can use the same Wizards Account login across all platforms, allowing them more ways to play and grow their collection. Players on mobile can also match against others on Windows PC or Mac OS;
  • Enhanced Mobile Features – Players can now tap their lands to add mana to their mana pool with touch screen and other gesture controls, as well as experience an updated interface for smaller screens;
