'Hunt: Showdown' Becomes Live-action TV Series On Streaming Service Binge.com

by Rainier on Nov. 22, 2021 @ 12:27 a.m. PST

Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a match-based first-person bounty hunting game where you will face off against unearthly horrors in the forgotten corners of the world.

Savage, nightmarish monsters roam the Louisiana swamps, and you are part of a group of rugged bounty hunters bound to rid the world of their ghastly presence. Banish these creatures from our world, and you will be paid generously—and given the chance to buy more gruesome and powerful weapons. Fail, and death will strip you of both character and gear. Your experience, however, remains in your pool of hunters—called your Bloodline—always.

Hunt’s competitive, match-based gameplay mixes PvP and PvE elements to create a uniquely tense experience where your life, your character, and your gear are always on the line. At the beginning of each match, up to five teams of two set out to track their monstrous targets. Once they’ve found and defeated one of these they will receive a bounty—and instantly become a target for every other Hunter left on the map. If you don’t watch your back, you’ll find a knife in it, and your last memory will be of another team of Hunters walking away with your prize. The higher the risk, the higher the reward–but a single mistake could cost you everything.

The dark and gritty world of Hunt: Showdown will be transformed into a live-action series in a partnership between Crytek and Binge, a forthcoming streaming platform showcasing premium original series and shows inspired by popular game worlds and content creators.

Hunt: Showdown takes place in 1890s Louisiana, where bounty hunters compete to slay gruesome beasts before claiming their reward – or being taken out by their rivals. The high-stakes, high-tension world will be further realised through the new partnership, which will see the show streamed exclusively on Binge.com.

Crytek’s Avni Yerli, Faruk Yerli and Pascal Tonecker will serve as executive producers, alongside producers Allan Ungar and Vince Talenti from Binge.

"We have always known that Hunt: Showdown would look great as a live-action series,” said Avni Yerli, Crytek founder and joint CEO. “The world is dark, gritty, and immersive, and there is so much potential for many great stories to be told. We can't wait to see what the team at Binge can create."

Vincent Talenti, producer for Binge, added: “Hunt: Showdown is a heart-pumping survival game with incredible lore that’s ripe for a live-action series adaptation. We’re excited to drop viewers deep into the bayou and have them come face to face with monsters and hunters alike.

“We're incredibly excited to partner with Crytek on this series,” said Allan Ungar, producer for Binge. “New players are constantly discovering Hunt: Showdown and falling in love with its bold and unique world, and we can't wait for fans to see what we anticipate will be the first of many collaborations with Crytek.”

Free streaming platform Binge.com launches in 2022, and will be available on TV, mobile, PC or console.

Even in death, you will be able to progress among the ranks of Hunters via your Bloodline. Though one character may die, their experience will be transferred to your Bloodline, where it can be applied your other Hunters. If you make it off of the map alive, you will be able to use the money and experience you earn to kit out new Hunters and prepare for the next match. If you die, you lose everything but your experience.

Dark Sight allows Hunters to see into the veil between worlds, making that which cannot be seen by mortal eyes visible to those who have been initiated. Use Dark Sight when you are tracking monsters, and a ghostly light will guide you toward your next target. Dark Sight also marks players carrying a bounty, making them more vulnerable to ambush while trying to escape.

Hunt: Showdown is currently available for PS4, Xbox One and PC (Steam).
