“We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of the infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.”
— H.P. Lovecraft, “The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories”
The player steps into the shoes of a 1920s private investigator who finds himself in the city of Oakmont Massachusetts, New England. A city suffering from unprecedented floods of clearly supernatural origins. A city trembling on the brink of madness. The city, a wide open-world oozing with insanity, is being taken over by an unfathomable supernatural force, and it's up to the player to find out what has taken control of the city... and the minds of the people within it.
Frogwares have surprise launched a PS5 enhanced version of The Sinking City with multiple enhancements and improvements that utilize the console’s power and functionalities.
Frogwares has confirmed the following improvements and features for the Playstation 5 version:
- 4K (3840x2160) resolution
- 60 frames per second
- Improved graphical fidelity
- Improved loading times
- Additional quests - part of the Merciful Madness DLC (included in Deluxe Edition, or as a separate purchase)
- DualSense controller features
- PS5 activities support
Frogwares has also made the conscious decision to drop the price of the PS5 version to 49.99 USD for the standard edition and 64.99 USD for the Deluxe Edition, despite both the previous pricing and next-gen game price increases being seen elsewhere.
“As the sole owner and publisher of The Sinking City on PS5, we have chosen to price the game in a region that we feel is fair to players for this type of game. We’ll also be carefully looking at how we price all our future releases to try keep with this way of thinking.” - Serge Chervonnyi, Head of Production
On top of the reduced price, PS+ subscribers will have an additional 30% off discount for the first two weeks of the game’s release.
Some have been asking about a platform upgrade for the game from the PlayStation 4 version, however this is sadly not possible at the moment.
The Sinking City on PlayStation 4 and on PlayStation 5 have different publishers on record. On PlayStation 5, Frogwares is the developer and publisher of the game. As the PS4 and PS5 games have different game IDs and due to an ongoing current legal and technical situation, this game is currently not eligible for a platform upgrade.
As the situation is being handled legally, it remains frozen for the time being on our side.
To coincide with the launch, Frogwares is putting together an extensive digital artbook that shows the game’s journey from conception to release. Players who purchase the PS5 version of the game will receive the artbook automatically as a DLC at a later date.
Can you survive this beleaguered town and untangle the mysteries responsible for its tragic situation or will you be driven beyond madness yourself?
