'Street Fighter V' (ALL) Celebrates Fifth Anniversary With Season 5, New Character, Free Content and More!

by Rainier on Feb. 22, 2021 @ 8:48 a.m. PST

Street Fighter V is the latest installment in the fighting franchise, adding new fighters, several new locations, and cross-platform play.

Street Fighter V: Champion Edition is the most robust version of the acclaimed fighting game.

Street Fighter V: Champion Edition includes all content (excluding Fighting Chance costumes, brand collaboration costumes and Capcom Pro Tour DLC) from both the original release and Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Champion Edition adds each character, stage and other content that released after Arcade Edition and will include all launch content coming to this new version. In total, this robust edition of Street Fighter V features 40 characters, 34 stages and over 200 costumes. Fighters can battle their way through a variety of exciting single-player and multi-player modes designed for players of all skill levels, including Story Mode, Arcade Mode, Team Battle, Ranked Match, Casual Match and more.

Champion Edition also heralds the return of Gill, the leader of the Secret Society and the end boss of the Street Fighter III series. Gill is a master of both pyrokinesis and cryokinesis, allowing him to control fire and ice with perfect elemental balance (hence his outward appearance). Typically plotting behind the scenes, Gill is now ready to reveal himself to the world, as he sets out to fulfill the prophecy that the Secret Society has coveted since ancient times.

Just over five years ago, Street Fighter V was released to fighting game fans across the world. Since then, the game has continued to grow and evolve into the action-packed powerhouse it is now.

Beginning today, the historic fifth and final season of Street Fighter V is officially underway with the release of new character Dan Hibiki and free content for all PS4 and PC (Steam) players. This includes a new “V-Shift” battle mechanic, new training stage, and an updated battle balance for all playable characters.

Releasing today, Dan Hibiki kicks off Season 5 of Street Fighter V in style with his trademark taunts and self-proclaimed “Master of Saikyo” fighting techniques. A mainstay from the Street Fighter Alpha series and last appearing in Street Fighter IV, Dan Hibiki is a training partner of Ryu and Ken. He considers himself well-equipped to “school” anyone who won’t back down. Dan can be added to Street Fighter V rosters now with the Season 5 Character Pass or the Season 5 Premium Pass. He can also be acquired separately for MSRP $5.99 or 100,000 Fight Money. See below for Season 5 Pass details.

Also available today as a free update to all Street Fighter V players, a powerful “V-Shift” battle mechanic provides players with all-new defensive options and strategies. Costing just one bar of V-Gauge, when timed correctly, V-Shift allows players to execute a fully invincible backdash that slows down time for a short period, helping fighters better plan their counter attacks. In addition, all players can now acquire a new training stage called “The Grid Alternative” for free, as well as an updated battle balance for all playable characters, adding even more gameplay depth and enhancements to the game’s combat system.

Looking ahead to the rest of Season 5, four more characters are preparing to join the fight in Street Fighter V: Champion Edition: Rose (Spring 2021), Oro (Summer 2021), Akira (Summer 2021), and a fifth and final unannounced character (Fall 2021). In total, 26 new costumes and two new stages are also being planned for Season 5, including a Rose stage (Spring 2021) and Akira stage (Summer 2021).

To enjoy the new characters and related content, two different Street Fighter V Season 5 passes are available now: Season 5 Character Pass and Season 5 Premium Pass. Here’s a rundown of what’s included with each Season 5 Pass:

  • Season 5 Character Pass
    • All five Season 5 Characters and Costume Colors 3-10
    • Five Battle Costumes (one for each Season 5 Character)
    • Six Titles
    • Bonus Content: Eleven*
    • Exclusive PS4 Themes and Steam wallpapers
  • Season 5 Premium Pass
    • All five Season 5 Characters and Costume Colors 3-10
    • 26 NEW Costumes
    • Two NEW Stages
    • All costume colors for all Season 5 characters
    • Eight Titles
    • Bonus Content: Eleven*
    • 100,000 Fight Money
    • Exclusive PS4 Themes and Steam wallpapers

*Eleven is a mimic character who can randomly transform itself into any character currently owned in Street Fighter V. The mimicked character will retain Eleven’s color scheme, while still performing exactly like the character being copied.

Street Fighter V: Champion Edition includes all content (excluding Fighting Chance costumes, brand collaboration costumes and Capcom Pro Tour DLC) from both the original release and Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Champion Edition adds each character, stage and other content that released after Arcade Edition and through the launch of this new version. In total, this robust edition of Street Fighter V features 40 characters, 34 stages and over 200 costumes.

Both the full version and upgrade kit of Street Fighter V: Champion Edition are currently on sale for 25% off on PS4 (digital only) and on Steam (digital only). The digital upgrade kit offers current owners of any version of Street Fighter V instant access to all unowned Champion Edition content. For new players, a free trial featuring all 40 characters is underway on PS4 and Steam and all versions of the Street Fighter V base game are currently 60% off.

The initial Street Fighter V purchase is still the only one that consumers need to make to ensure they always have the most up-to-date version of the title. All game mode additions and balance updates are free for owners of any Street Fighter V version. Additionally, all DLC characters remain earnable completely free of charge through completing various in-game challenges and receiving earned in-game currency, called Fight Money. For those who can’t wait, in-game content can be obtained instantly using real money. Certain additional content can only be acquired using Fight Money, which can be earned through normal gameplay.

Street Fighter V: Champion Edition is available for PS4 and PC.
