'Deep Rock Galactic' (ALL) Reveals Development Roadmap

by Rainier on Feb. 26, 2021 @ 9:46 a.m. PST

Deep Rock Galactic is a procedurally generated first person co-op shooter for up to 4 players.

As a team of veteran dwarven space miners, you must go on missions for your corporate overlords and venture into the deepest, most dangerous cave systems of the most hostile planet ever discovered.

Experience teamwork as you’ve never experienced it in a co-op game before. Complete missions and gather ever more riches. Expand your roster of class-based skills, unlock new gear and weapons, and take on the worst monsters the galaxy has to offer.

Players take up arms as one of four classes of badass dwarven miners, each with their own invaluable set of skills and gear. The Driller, the Engineer, the Scout and the Gunner must work together to survive a relentless onslaught of ravenous aliens and escape the procedurally generated caves with their bounty intact.

Enlisted dwarves will be paired with up to three like-minded brethren and sent on missions to the most hostile planet ever discovered, Hoxxes IV, to mine precious gems and metals. Cooperation is essential to your success and, as an interplanetary mining conglomerate, Deep Rock Galactic depends on its employees to take care of each other.

To celebrate Deep Rock Galactic’s three year anniversary and currently ongoing Steam Free Weekend, Coffee Stain Publishing and Ghost Ship Games have just released an updated roadmap for 2021. Below you can see a brief overview of the next two scheduled updates, and they are gonna be biggies!

The team is going live on Twitch at 3pm (UTC +1), where you can hear about these updates first hand, and join the community to ask any questions you may have.

Update 34: Bits n’ Pieces - April 2021

  • Modding support (Steam Only)
    • This long awaited feature gives players the toolkit to bring their own creativity to Hoxxes IV (and the surrounding space stations).
    • This includes a whole bunch of features, including a Save Game Profile system, Mod categories, and a menu dedicated to Modding.
    • The Save Game profiles can also be used to safely reset your progress to safeguard those high-level dwarves!
    • More information on this support will be revealed as the release gets closer.
  •  A Controller Rebinding feature will be available on all platforms.
    • This has been sorely missing and will work like the Keyboard/Mouse rebind system that currently exists.
  • Balance changes
    • Ghost Ship is carrying out a full balance review of Weapons and Overclocks currently in the game, based on their internal data and the feedback from the community. Buffs and nerfs inbound!

Update 35: (Currently) Untitled - Q3 2021

  • Following a smaller update in April, the Q3 Update 35 will be a behemoth. While it has no title yet nor a theme, and the content is not finalised. But here’s a sneak peak on what’s to come!
  • This update will very likely include a number of features that have been previously announced such as:
    • A new mission
    • New weapons
    • New overclocks
    • New cosmetic items
  • On top of this, Ghost Ship is looking to add some new mutators, more features to the space-rig, more cosmetic systems, and potentially more variables during the missions.
  • This will be paired with Ghost Ship’s constant commitment to improving and polishing the UI based on community feedback — pretty things, this way come..

Key Features:

  • 1 to 4 player Co-Op: Work together as a team to dig, explore, and fight your way through massive cave systems filled with hordes of deadly enemies and valuable resources.
  • 4 Unique Classes: Mow through enemies as the Gunner, scout ahead and light up the caves as the Scout, chew through solid rock as the Driller, or support the team with defensive structures and turrets as the Engineer.
  • Fully Destructible Environments: Destroy everything around you to reach your goal. There is no set path so you can complete your mission your way. But proceed with caution, you don’t want to stumble into an alien swarm unprepared!
  • Procedurally Generated Cave Network: Explore a network of procedurally generated cave systems filled with enemies to fight and riches to collect.
  • High-Tech Gadgets and Weapons: Clean the caves of Hoxxes IV with the CSPR Flamethrower and the "Lead Storm" Powered Minigun, light the way with flares, tackle tough terrain with the Reinforced Power Drill and reach new heights with the grappling hook.

Deep Rock Galactic is available on PC (Steam) and Xbox One (Microsoft Store) for $29.99/€29.99/£24.99.
