'Wastenauts' Announced, Launches Kickstarter Campaign - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on March 24, 2021 @ 1:31 p.m. PDT

Wastenauts is a cooperative collectible card-crawler about making do with what the robot apocalypse has given you.

Gather your friends and jump down to the surface. Fight bots and smash 'em up for parts. Craft gear to help you survive in the wastes. Oh, and it's a card game.

Take on the role of misfit mercenaries and explore decks packed with 'bots, gear, and a ton of scrap. Your unlocked cards are the tools you'll use to make your way to the boss. Unlock and upgrade power ability cards, blueprint cards to craft in a pinch, and augment cards to boost your stats.

Humanity has been chased off the surface by possessed machines. We live in giant city ships, far outside the robots' influence, while they strip our home of its resources. The only people insane enough to save our asses by going down there and fighting to bring materials back are the Divers. That's where you come in. One good shove off the side of the ship and you've already started your mission. Don't worry, I'm sure another ship will come by to pick you up. Eventually.

Team up in groups of 1-4 in fully online co-op, and choose your loadout smartly to ensure maximum combo potential. Matchmaking and custom games are both available!

Razbury Games has launched a Wastenauts kickstarter campaign, looking to raise $30,000.

Fans interested in trying the game can sign up for the Playtest on Steam.

Key Features:

  • A cast of unique characters each with their own abilities, gear, and emotional baggage
  • 100+ cards to unlock, including that one rare card that's pretty build defining
  • Adventure Mode - we bring the deck, you bring the monsters. The harder you make the game, the more rewards. If you win, of course.
  • A leveling system complicated enough for the most die-hard min-maxers
  • No two game sessions will ever be quite the same. You’re exploring - and fighting against - a location deck, and what goes into that deck, well, who knows?

Start a session with up to three friends, and pick your unique squad of Divers. Together, jump off the ship and hit the surface - but make every moment count. You'll only have a few days before the next ship arrives to pick you back up.

Each day of Wastenauts is broken into two phases: Exploration and Camp.

Exploration

During the exploration phase, players take turns drawing cards from a shared zone deck. Loot and resources get added to your hand, events require some choices to be made, and of course monsters need to be fought. Use abilities from your hand to boost your damage, and then roll dice to deal damage to the bots and scavs you find in the deck.

Camp

After every team draws their cards, play turns to the camp phase. Think of camp as “returning to town” in your favorite dungeon crawler - here you'll be able to trade items with your party members, and strategize for the next exploration phase. Certain abilities will allow you to make the most of your camp phase, including scouting the deck, crafting, healing, and more.

When your days are up, only one thing stands between you and the cityship - every deck has a boss that you've attracted with your clanging about. Use every tool you've got in an all-out fight, because if you lose here, you'll be heading skyside empty-handed.

After each session, use your loot to purchase new cards for the next trip - abilities, blueprints, and even monsters to add to the deck and make it harder. The harder your next dive, the better the rewards!

Wastenauts is in development for PC (Steam), scheduled for 2022.
