2120 AD: the Sedvan Spheres, advanced teleportation devices, have suddenly reactivated after years of silence. Now Anthracite, the beautiful yet hostile planet light-years away from Earth, is once again accessible. Anthracite hides an invaluable treasure: Galvaon, the rare, natural mineral that fuels the Sedvan Spheres. Whoever wins the battle for Anthracite can conquer the universe.
When team-based tactical games meet physics and portals.
Inspired by classics like Laser Squad or UFO: Enemy Unknown, Tactical Troops introduces its own flavor: a turn-based wargame with no hex grid that conforms to laws of physics, meaning that if the player shoots at a barrel, it’ll recoil from their hits.
In Tactical Troops: Anthracite Shift military squads fight against each other and the planet’s dangerous fauna. What sets the QED games’ title apart from other turn-based strategies is that units move on a girdless map. Teleportation is an important aspect of both the story and the gameplay. It adds new tactical options - transporting troops around the battlefield, moving fired rounds or thrown grenades. Teleports can be used as cover, which is another element in Tactical Troops’ combat system.
The 41 campaign missions are strongly influenced by sci-fi cult classics from the 80s with over the top explosions and memorable one-liners. Multiplayer skirmishes resemble a mixture of Worms, Valkyria Chronicles and X-COM. In both game modes players are confronted with challenging opponents, powered by Grail - an AI technology developed by QED Games.
Key Features:
- SINGLE-PLAYER CAMPAIGN: Explore the beauty and the danger of Anthracite by leading your troops through 40 missions of a story-rich single-player campaign. Study the briefing, choose your equipment and outsmart your enemies.
- GRIDLESS MOVEMENT: Every single movement takes place in a gridless tactical environment. Players can plan their strategy and move their troops with freedom: take cover behind rocks and trees or ambush the enemy from inside buildings and bunkers.
- TELEPORTATION TECHNOLOGY: Players can not only teleport their units, but also their bullets! Plan ambushes from the other side of the map or use the Sedvan Spheres to disperse incoming fire.
- OVERWATCH TECHNIQUE: Thanks to the troops’ overwatch, players can automatically attack enemies as soon as they enter their field of view. Just set the direction and soldiers will wait patiently for the unlucky opponents who try to get in their way.
- PHYSICS-BASED WORLD: The combat system and the world of Anthracite follow the rules of physics: weapons require manual aiming, bullets and grenades can bounce off obstacles, and troops can push objects to use them to their advantage.
- MULTIPLAYER MODE: Compete with your friends or against the AI in the multiplayer skirmishes, either online or from the same device through the Hotseat mode.
Tactical Troops: Anthracite Shift is coming to PC (Steam) on April 15, 2021 for $14.99.
