'Watch Dogs: Legion' (ALL) Rolls Out Online Multiplayer For Consoles, Delayed On PC - Trailer

by Rainier on March 9, 2021 @ 4:00 p.m. PST

Watch Dogs: Legion is set in a near-future, dystopian version of London. It's a post-Brexit world in which society, politics and technology have changed and altered London's fortunes.

In Watch Dogs: Legion, London is facing its downfall. Amidst the growing unrest of a restless London, a mysterious entity known as Zero-Day has framed secret underground resistance DedSec for coordinated bombings across London. In the aftermath, criminal opportunists from every dark corner of London took hold and filled the void left by a defeated government. As a member of DedSec, players will be going up against criminal opportunists in Watch Dogs: Legion; sadists, mercenaries, cybercriminals, and more; they’ll have to be prepared for a variety of situations. Players must recruit members into their DedSec Resistance to take on these criminal opportunists, liberate London and uncover the mystery behind Zero-Day.

Built with a next-gen concept, Watch Dogs: Legion introduces "Play as Anyone," a never-before-seen gameplay innovation created by Ubisoft Toronto. Play as Anyone gives players the entire city of London to choose their roster of resistance members from. Every single person in the open world can be recruited and played, is unique and has a backstory, personality and skillset.

Watch Dogs: Legion lets players recruit anyone they can see in the open world to be part of their DedSec Resistance up to 40 characters at a time. The London setting gives players the perfect backdrop to recruit all kinds of characters – who each have unique skills and weapons – to their Resistance: from an MI6 agent to a bareknuckle fighter, from a brilliant hacker to a getaway driver, from a football hooligan to an inconspicuous old lady. Players can play as any character from their roster of recruits and approach a situation based on their preference; whether the approach is from the sky while riding high on a cargo drone as a construction worker, or on the ground as a spy using high-tech gadgets like a gun-jamming watch and a prototype of a rocket-firing car, the choice is for the player to make.

In Watch Dogs: Legion, the players' choices have real consequences. If non-lethal force is used, the enemy will attempt to subdue and arrest the player. But if the player shoots to kill, their characters could be wounded or even permanently killed.

In Watch Dogs: Legion, players can even bring their team online and team up with their friends in four-player co-op, while sharing their progression between single-player and online.

Ubisoft announced that the online mode for Watch Dogs: Legion is now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Stadia at no additional cost for Watch Dogs: Legion players.

The mode will also be coming shortly after on the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store on Windows PC, and Ubisoft+, Ubisoft’s subscription service.

The online mode of Watch Dogs: Legion includes:

  • Free-roam open-world co-op where players can team up with their friends for up to four-players and explore London, encounter city events, complete challenges and participate in side activities.
  • New co-op missions for two-to-four players using new co-op gameplay mechanics and giving players the opportunity to recruit the perfect team and fight back against London’s threats across the most iconic landmarks of the city.
  • The first available Player-vs-Player (PvP) mode, Spiderbot Arena, where four players control armed spiderbots and compete in a high intensity free-for-all deathmatch.

Two exclusive single-player missions for Season Pass owners are also available today:

  • Guardian Protocol: DedSec will track down an algorithm that shows that AI can sometimes override human decision. If this algorithm was to be used in weaponized drones… they would have power over life and death.
  • Not In Our Name: DedSec discovers a secret group using their name in London, working under the orders of a ruthless tabloid owner, who uses information stolen by this group to blackmail his notorious victims and gain power in the city.

On March 23, “Leader of the Pack,” the first four-player co-op Tactical Op which will require teamwork and efficiency will be available. More content will continue being added after launch through free updates, including Invasion PvP mode, all-new co-op missions, free characters and more.

By completing any online activity, players will earn XP to increase their rank and unlock various rewards such as exclusive cosmetics and influence points to recruit new operatives or upgrade their DedSec gadgets.

Additionally, as part of Watch Dogs: Legion’s robust post-launch plan in 2021, all players will have access to future free updates such as Invasion PvP mode, all-new co-op missions and free characters. Season Pass owners will also have access later this year to extra DedSec missions, the Watch Dogs: Legion – Bloodline story expansion, new playable heroes such as Mina, a subject of transhuman experiments who possesses the mind control ability; Darcy, a member of the Assassin Order; Aiden Pearce and Wrench from the Watch Dogs franchise. The Season Pass of Watch Dogs: Legion is available for purchase as part of the Gold, Ultimate and Collector editions.

Watch Dogs: Legion supports hardware-accelerated DirectX Raytracing on Xbox Series X and use real-time ray tracing and other advanced NVIDIA gaming technologies on Nvidia RTX-equipped PC devices to create stunning visuals in the highly anticipated third installment of the AAA, open world, action-adventure Watch Dogs franchise. Ray tracing is the advanced graphics technique used to give movies their ultra-realistic visual effects. NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs contain specialized processor cores designed specifically to accelerate ray tracing so the visual effects in games can be rendered in real time.

Watch Dogs: Legion leverages Smart Delivery allowing access to both the Xbox One title and Xbox Series X title when available. Watch Dogs: Legion PS4 Digital and Blu-Ray games gives access to the corresponding Watch Dogs: Legion PS5 Digital version at no additional cost, when available. Requires a PS5 or a PS5 Digital Edition, the game disc (if owned on Blu-Ray) must be kept inserted in the PS5 disc tray to play, a PlayStation Network registration, additional storage & Broadband internet connection. May incur bandwidth usage fees.

Watch Dogs: Legion is available Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Stadia and for PC (Epic Games, Uplay/UPlay+).
