'EverSpace 2' Early Access Update Adds New Story, Ships, Missions, Enemies, Boss and More, Next Update This Summer - Trailer

by Rainier on April 28, 2021 @ 5:00 a.m. PDT

In contrast to the roguelike concept of its predecessor, EverSpace 2 is an open-world space shooter with classic RPG elements and persistent player progression, as well as a much larger number of player ships and significantly enhanced storytelling.

Set in a persistent open world, it is driven by a captivating sci-fi story that picks up shortly after the events of its predecessor, but instead of the previous roguelike game mechanics, the focus in EverSpace 2 will be on open world gameplay combined with classic RPG elements and extended storytelling.

Thanks to the expanded perks and a brand new class-based player ship system with dozens of models, players can also fully customize their spaceship to their individual playing style with weapons, plating, and equipment, similar to classic RPG character development. Despite all the innovations, EverSpace 2 remains true to its space shooter core and presents fast-paced space action in the well-known EverSpace style.

The story of EverSpace 2 continues from its predecessor, as you continue the story of Adam Roslin, one of the surviving cloned military space pilot. The player is faced with the remnants of his past: the cloning program has been canceled, the colonial authorities have placed a bounty on him,

Players will experience Adam’s journey as he learns what it means to transition from a clone with unlimited lives, yet persistent memories, so now that dying means the ultimate death the search for the meaning of life suddenly takes on a whole new importance. Adam’s journey will be shaped through meaningful relationships with interesting companions as he discovers that life is only worth-living if there is also something worth dying for. Fate, however, has big plans and soon the player discovers what it means to evolve from a former military clone to a truly real person.

EverSpace 2 not only creates a powerful gaming experience, but also one that is visually impressive in the beautiful infinity of space where breathtaking cinematic scenery invites - encourages - exploration.

Rockfish Games have just released the first major content update, Union: Contracts/Heartland, to EverSpace 2, now live on Steam Early Access and GOG Games in Development.

Space game enthusiasts can look forward to a new companion, additional main and side story missions, introducing all-new smuggling gameplay, as well as a new ship class, activities, challenges, improved game balancing, special gear with set bonuses, and more.

EverSpace 2 had a fantastic launch with 92% positive reviews right out of the gate back in January. Pilots were really excited, burned through the content and demanded more—a good problem to have,” said Michael Schade, CEO and Co-Founder of Rockfish Games. “Going into Early Access, we had eight to twelve hours of story content and twice as many side activities, secrets, and challenges to discover, as well as five ship classes. With Union: Contracts/Hinterland we’re adding new, carefully scripted, story content, introducing all-new gameplay mechanics, a new ship class that brings a unique playstyle to the game as well as lots of hidden treasures in Union. We also made a ton of tweaks and quality-of-life improvements overall, so we encourage pilots to start a new game to get the full new experience, but they can also just hop in and continue with their existing saves.”

The first major EverSpace 2 update adds three main and three side missions as well as several additional side activities, all taking place in the second star system, Ceto.

EverSpace fans will recall Elek, an Outlaw ally from the EverSpace: Encounters expansion. The new main mission rescuing Elek will take combat and exploration gameplay deep underground, and introduces a new corrosive damage dealing enemy, the Cave Crawlers. Once rescued, Elek provides clues on how to advance the main story. Later on, he can even be called to join in battles as wingman through a new perk tree.

The first new ship class for EverSpace 2 is also being made available in this update. The Heavy-class Bomber allows secondary weapons to use energy instead of ammunition and regenerates hull when damaging enemies, perfect for pulverizing targets without breaking a sweat. The ship’s Ultimate ability unleashes the ARC-9000, a massive ball of destruction that damages all ships in its vicinity and explodes on impact. The team has also shared that they will be releasing a second ship in a post-update patch. The Light-class Vanguard offers players looking for faster, hit-and-run, type builds the chance to live out their starfighter dreams.

During the continued story campaign, players will encounter all-new pursuit missions and puzzles for even more gameplay variety. Furthermore, the level cap has been slightly increased to allow for additional pilot perks to be unlocked, while player progression and overall game balancing have also been improved based on community feedback by improving enemies’ AI and tweaking their stats as well as revamped XP and drop rates.

The update also brings four new music tracks to Union, three battle themes and an additional chill synthwave beat for Supralight travel and more.

Union: Contracts/Heartland is set to be followed by EverSpace 2’s second major update this summer. Currently titled Zharkov: the Vortex, the next update will bring another companion, new enemy types, new creatures and space phenomena, as well as additional main and side missions, activities, and more.

EverSpace 2 is available through Steam Early Access and GOG Games in Development.

The full version for PC, including Mac and native Linux support, will be released at a reasonably increased price in the first half of 2022 and come with UI and text language support for German, French, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
