'3 out of 10: Season Two' Free On Epic Games Store, Deponia : The Complete Journey, Pillars Of the Earth And The First Tree Next Week

by Rainier on April 8, 2021 @ 9:48 a.m. PDT

For the next week, the Epic Games Store is offering one title for free: 3 out of 10: Season Two.

The second season will bring five new episodes to the Epic Games Store for PC, all for free. Go behind-the-scenes of daily life for game developers, with raw, unfiltered looks at caffeine-fueled dimension hopping, gamer cred nightclubs, and other 9-to-5 doldrums. Every episode, all available on launch day, blends adventure game exploration with mini-game homages to every conceivable genre and franchise.

With a digestible runtime, scene selection, scene skip, and rewind capabilities, each episode makes it easy to follow the ongoing story of Shovelworks Studios. Where last we left the crew, new animator Midge Potter had just found a sliver of normalcy despite Pylon’s ketchup obsession, Francine’s sentient mannequins, spontaneously combusting coworkers, and Joan’s… uh, Joan. But the shadowy Parasol Agency wants Midge to sabotage the studio and ensure they never earn a review score higher than 3 out of 10.

More twists and turns wait just around the corner, and with development horribly askew totally on-track, the stakes are higher than ever. Stand against a horde of teleporting game designers in a mega-manly 2D boss battle. Twist metal in a car-battle showdown to escape a rival studio’s campus. Dance your way to victory in a rhythm-based rap battle about cows. Survive vicious murder drones in an FPS arena duel and playtest the tabletop version of… an endless endful runner?

Once 3 out of 10: Season Two, the current free game on the Epic Games Store, has runs its course, it will be up to Deponia : The Complete Journey, Pillars Of the Earth and The First Tree, which will be gratis starting April 15 until April 27, 2021.

Deponia : The Complete Journey

Junk, junk and even more junk. Life on the trash-planet Deponia is anything but a walk in the park. No surprise that Rufus had enough of that and hatches one ludicrous plan after the other to escape this bleak place.

When Rufus, on one of his attempts to leave Deponia behind, meets Goal, he not only falls madly in love with the beautiful girl from Elysium; he also accidentally shoves her right off her comfortable star cruiser and down to the desolate trash-planet. This accident kindles a new, brilliant plan: he needs to get Goal back to the floating city of Elysium – and while he's on it, he can also impersonate her sleazy fiance Cletus, who is the spitting image of Rufus for some reason. And thus, an exciting adventure begins...

Showered in top-scores and awards, the Deponia-Trilogy, created by the developers of Edna&Harvey: The Breakout, The Whispered World and Memoria, managed to reach cult-status almost instantly. Thanks to its exciting story, likeable characters and hilarious dialogues and a finely crafted mixture of comedy and puzzles, Deponia is enjoyable for both, young and old. Join Rufus on his thrilling journeys, for the first time in a complete edition with many new features, that will not only be a blast for hardcore adventure fans, but also those new to the genre.

Pillars Of the Earth

Based on Ken Follett's world-bestseller, ‘The Pillars of the Earth’ retells the story of the village of Kingsbridge in a whole new interactive way. Play as Jack, Aliena and Philip and change the events of the book through exploration, decision-making and dialogues.

12th century, England: In a time of great poverty and war, a small town begins the construction of a cathedral to claim wealth and security for its people. In their struggle to survive, lives and destinies intertwine. Philip the monk becomes prior of the small abbey of Kingsbridge.

At the same time, a boy called Jack is raised in the woods by his outlawed mother. His apprenticeship as a stonemason paves his way to become a gifted master builder. Together with the disgraced noblewoman Aliena, Jack and Philip begin the construction of one of the greatest cathedrals England will ever see.

Key Features:

  • One of the most successful novels of all time, now adapted as a three-part videogame series
  • Change events from the novel and influence the fates of its characters
  • Follow an epic of war, conspiracies and romance spanning over 30 years
  • Three different playable characters: Jack the outsider, Aliena the noblewoman and Philip the monk

The First Tree

A beautiful, 3rd-person exploration game centered around two parallel stories: a fox trying to find her missing family, and a son reconnecting with his estranged father in Alaska. Uncover artifacts from the son's life as they journey towards The First Tree.

Players take control of the fox on a poignant and beautiful journey that crescendos at the source of life, and perhaps result in an understanding of death. Along the way, players can uncover artifacts and stories from the son's life as he becomes intertwined in the fox’s journey towards The First Tree.

Key Features:

  • For fans of Journey, Firewatch, and Shelter.
  • Not a "fox simulator," but an emotional, intimate story by a one-man team with an ending you won't soon forget.
  • Featuring a gorgeous soundtrack by acclaimed artists like Message to Bears, Lowercase Noises, and Josh Kramer.
  • A short game (about an hour and a half) focused on story with some light puzzle solving, platforming, and no enemies.
