'Wonhon: A Vengeful Spirit' Gets Release Date, New Demo - Trailer

Wonhon: A Vengeful Spirit is a paranormal stealth action game that follows a gripping story of revenge inspired by Korean folklore and culture.

Killed in a military conflict, a little girl returns from the dead with only one purpose: revenge. Using her paranormal ghostly abilities granted by the God of Death, you will fight hordes of enemies, balancing between stealth and action-based violence, in this new stealth action thriller.

Wonhon: A Vengeful Spirit takes place in the alternative history of Korea in the 1920s. The main character is a Korean girl who was killed along with her family during the attack on the village. She meets Jeoseung Saja, the God of Death, and makes a deal with him. He gives the heroine a paranormal ability to turn into a ghost and possess living creatures. She helps the spirits of her people to find peace by completing their favors and performing brutal revenge.

But everything has its price, and she will have to face the consequences of her actions and restore the balance of life and death.

A new Prologue/demo Wonhon: A Vengeful Spirit is now available via Steam, featuring the first four levels of the final game, giving players a taste of its stealth and tactics gameplay, along with featuring key story elements.

The central game mechanic is stealth: since the girl is not protected by anything, and her only weapon is an ability to turn into a ghost, players need to move covertly and plan every step. The high complexity of the game makes players monitor each of their actions closely, since the punishment for being caught is a one-bullet death (and if you’re dead you need to go through the mission again). This is a challenge for the players that keeps them in constant tension.

The heroine is defenseless against enemies, and she can be killed by one shot, so basically detection means death. A girl has a paranormal ability to take life force from the living creatures, turn into a ghost and possess both enemies and allies. This ability is time-limited though. A game can’t be finished without killings, as almost every mission requires the death of one or several enemies, and sometimes these deaths are pretty cruel. The player is always in a losing position, and the mechanics force them to improvise and always be focused. The penalty for error is death and re-passing the whole level.

One of the main features of the game is that it is difficult for an ordinary player to complete. This genre resonates with players who value the challenge and love to hone their skills in using different tactics. The player is always in a losing position against enemies, and this cannot be corrected by leveling up and development during the game: your opponent will always be stronger and more defenced. This creates a challenge and makes players desire to try again and again.

Key Features:

  • A Girl and a Ghost: A defenseless child surrounded by enemies, the game's phantasmal protagonist can take life force (Qi) from living creatures, turn into a ghost and possess them.
  • A Story of Vengeance: Having made a deal with death, the girl must defeat the marauding army through stealth and combat.
  • A Delicate Balance: Challenging situations call for clever solutions, will you go the stealthy route, possessing your foes and sneaking past problems, or will you go with brute force, and fight your way through the situation?

Wonhon: A Vengeful Spirit is coming to PC (Steam) on June 8, 2021.
