'State of Decay 2' Update 25: Plague Territory Adds New Challenges, Rewards, Resource Outposts And More

by Rainier on June 22, 2021 @ 1:09 p.m. PDT

State of Decay 2 immerses you in an all-new, multiplayer zombie survival fantasy.

State of Decay 2 is an open-world survival-fantasy game for you and up to 3 co-op friends. After a zombie apocalypse, your small group of survivors seek to rebuild a small corner of civilization, and you get to make all the decisions about how that happens.

You decide who to recruit to your team, where to settle your community, how to fortify and upgrade your base, and when it’s time to move to greener pastures. You select which survivor to bring along on a scavenging run for the food and ammo you need, and who you’ll use to fight off the zombies attacking your base. You choose how you’ll deal with other people who move into your town. Will you be friendly and welcoming... or will you aggressively defend your territory?

Every player’s experience in the game is unique. Each character in your community has their own special set of skills and traits, so no two communities are ever the same. The challenges you face also vary from game to game, based on who you recruit and the decisions you make along the way.

Blood plague has tightened its grip on State of Decay 2, creating new challenges for players to tackle, and introducing tempting new rewards in Update 25.

Plague hearts are now surrounded by an area of malevolent influence, known as plague territory. Bases and outposts within these spheres cannot be claimed until the heart has been defeated. However, the rewards balance the risks, as enhanced outposts offer increased resources and even additional community skills.

Resource outposts can be upgraded, netting a player abundant resources that would otherwise only be found at their base. Upgrade them twice, and a player will unlock a valuable skill training resource.

Landmark outposts are iconic settings that only occur once on every map. Players who spend influence to claim these rare outposts are granted their choice of one of three distinct, strategic benefits.

The balance of enhanced outposts versus plague territory introduces a greater sense of player progression through clear, visually driven goals and creates opportunities for more strategic and personal gameplay.

Update 25 also brings sidearm swapping to the game, one of the most hotly requested community features from our wish list, along with three new achievements worth 50 Gamerscore! Xbox players who complete any one of the new achievements will earn Microsoft Rewards points.

This update is available now for players on all platforms and included with Xbox Game Pass. For the full list of features, quality of life improvements, and bug fixes, see the patch notes at State of Decay’s Support website.

Together, we survive.

Build a lasting community, working with other players or solo to overcome challenges while exploring your own unique story in a world that remembers the choices you make.

How will you survive the zombie apocalypse?

State of Decay 2 is currently available on Xbox One and PC (Steam).
