'Kerbal Space Program' Celebrates 10th Anniversary With Content Update, Comes To PS5 And Xbox Series X|S This Fall - Trailer

by Rainier on June 24, 2021 @ 8:58 a.m. PDT

Create your own spacecraft, launch it into space to explore the galaxy, and visit a vast amount of planets; assuming you can get it off the ground!

KSP puts you in charge of the recently launched space program for a fun & clever alien race – the Kerbals. These little guys are counting on you to build spaceships, rockets and vehicles that can take them on fun space travel missions, without hurting them in the process… You’ll have a collection of parts & tools to accomplish this, each one with unique functions that will affect your ship and its chances of taking off or crashing spectacularly.

Once you've made it to deep space, KSP lets you capture asteroids, launch mining programs to find resources across the furthest reaches of the solar system and build space stations around planets you discover.

The game offers three gameplay modes: Sandbox, where you’re free to build anything your imagination can come up with; Science Mode lets you perform scientific experiments and advance the knowledge of the Kerbals to unlock new technologies; and Career Mode, where you control every aspect of the space program, including crew management, reputation building, as well as embarking on side missions called “contracts” to earn funds and upgrade your space center facilities (or repair them).

Moving on to deep space, KSP lets you capture asteroids (in-game mission designed in collaboration with NASA), launch mining programs to find resources across the furthest reaches of the solar system and build space stations in all the planets you discover. It all adds up to this award-winning game that has taken the space sim genre by storm.

Kerbal Space Program has sold more than 5 million units worldwide, turns 10 years-old today and they’ve got some big news to share.

Releasing later this Fall, Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition on the latest consoles will also provide full support for a mouse and keyboard. In addition, existing owners of Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition on PS4 will receive a free upgrade to the PS5 version. Xbox One owners of Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition can upgrade to Xbox Series X|S version upon launch free of charge. Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition will be available digitally for purchase for $39.99.

“Today marks the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the original release of Kerbal Space Program, and over the last decade the team has continued to iterate and grow this incredible space sim into what it is today,” said Grant Gertz, Franchise Producer at Private Division. “Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition on the latest generation of consoles marks yet another great milestone for the game, introducing new players to the franchise, as well as providing existing console players with an upgraded experience for free.”

“It has been an amazing journey with Kerbal Space Program. We are so thankful to our community as we celebrate this monumental milestone of the game turning ten years old," said Nestor Gomez, Head of Production at Squad. "Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition benefits from the advancements of new hardware, and we are excited to bring players a refreshed and refined experience with this release."

Playing Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X results in a technical boost, with the action running at Quad high definition 1440p and an improved framerate over previous console versions. Xbox Series S runs Kerbal Space Program at 1080p and also boasts better framerate. The additional system memory on these consoles results in a more stable game experience and allows for an increase of part count on player’s crafts and contraptions. This release benefits from upgraded shaders and textures allowing for more stunning overall visual impressions for players.
