'Fracked' (ALL) Reveals More Gameplay Details - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on June 3, 2021 @ 4:06 p.m. PDT

Fracked is a PS VR action-adventure game the combines relentless run-and-cover gunfights with free and fluid skiing, climbing, base jumping and a ton of style.

Seamlessly combining relentless “run and cover” gunfights with free and fluid skiing and climbing, Fracked is uncompromising, audacious, and unashamedly stylish.

Stranded in a remote mountain facility, you play as a reluctant hero forced into a final stand between the planet and a legion of interdimensional enemies. Take aim and run head-first into explosive action as you shoot, ski, and climb your way across an extreme adventure. Alone, on the edge and really fracked off, humanity’s survival is in your hands.

Grab your gun, cock it, and take aim as a maverick war hero thrown back into the fight.  Experience innovative VR gunplay that ingeniously blends improvised run and gun combat with a 1:1 grabbable cover system.  Move freely around the battlefield to outflank, outsmart, and outgun an escalating threat with your arsenal of deadly, fully interactive weapons.

Venture through a harsh and dangerous mountain locale by seamlessly transitioning between a host of first-person free movement methods. Physically lean into the bends on your skis to master the slopes at high speed.  Reach out and hold on for your life as you climb and zipline far above the ground or perform audacious base-jumps to elude your foes.  No rails. No limits. No mercy.

The corporation dug too deep unleashing the ‘Fracked’ from the depths. Across one day, take on an interdimensional army that combines hive mind mentality and gun-wielding supremacy - the perfect targets to unload round upon round into.  Fracked is in-your-face action with a cutting commentary on corporate greed and the climate change emergency. Save the day, to save the world.

This trailer reveals what Fracked does best - the seamless and continuous high-paced action-adventure gameplay, which will be experienced on-foot, and whilst skiing and climbing. Fracked equips you with an interactive arsenal, as well as special weapons, and provides you with the tools to step into the shoes of the action hero.

Fracked is not an on-rails experience. You’ll be able to freely move (with 1:1 accuracy) throughout the level, whether that be on-foot, whilst climbing, on a zipline, or whilst hurtling down a mountain on your skis. The fluid action also provides you with cover shooter mechanics, giving you the freedom to intuitively grab environmental objects and use them to your advantage. On-foot movement is both instinctive and fast-paced. Aim your PlayStation Move controller in the direction you want to travel in (there’s absolutely no teleportation here).

Yes, there’s a shotgun! This punch-packing firearm is just one of the special weapons that will help you take on the hive of interdimensional enemies infesting the mountainous fracking community. You’ll also have noticed the SMG, which requires you to grab a new magazine and cock the weapon to fire (just like our pistol). This immersive mechanic not only helps you feel the action, but it also adds a new dimension to gunplay. You’ll have to think on your feet and make every bullet count as you duck behind cover tactically.

With Fracked, we wanted to provide the ultimate power fantasy of embodying a movie action hero. Whilst a lot of this is directly driven by the gameplay and interactions you undertake; we took the bold decision to provide you with a voiced protagonist, providing a role-playing experience where you can become the hero by stepping into the role. Not only that, but as the ex-Special Forces hero in Fracked, you won’t be going it alone — you’ve got backup! Rosalez will be your perfect foil, an eco-warrior with a colourful personality and witty charm. She’s a companion you can count on when the bullets start flying.

With a lot of video game experiences (even in VR), you’re stuck on a flat plane of existence… they’re often stationary with little lateral movement in the 3D space. With Fracked, we wanted to offer something more, a game that shows off the verticality of the virtual environment. The levels and world have been designed with this in mind, throwing you into the midst of imposing mountains, steep ski slopes, bottomless mine shafts, and the imposing corrugated steel behemoths of industry. Whilst on foot, you’ll be running, climbing, and ziplining through each level, all in a single seamless, action-focused experience. We want to push VR to new heights…pardon the pun.

The section you’ve seen is a very small part of the overall game. Everything you’ll see throughout the course of your Fracked mission can be visited, with your experience set on (and below) a singular mountain in the Alaskan wilds. In this extended gameplay trailer, we’ve given you just a taste of what’s to come, including a quick glimpse at the Blaster, a hulking brute you wouldn’t want to meet down a dark alley.

Fracked’s innovative VR gunplay blends improvised run and gun combat with a 1:1 grabbable cover system allowing you to move freely around the battlefield outflanking, outsmarting, and outgunning the Fracked. The game also features free and intuitive no-rails movement on foot, on skis and climbing.

Designed exclusively for PlayStation VR and PlayStation Move, Fracked combines interactions, locomotion and combat in a single, pioneering VR game with further enhancements for the new PS5, including uncapped dynamic resolution, improved framerate, resolution and loading times.

Fracked will be coming to PSVR (PS4/PS5) in Summer 2021.
