Wizards of the Coast's new Digital Games Studio is creating a Magic experience with the full rules and ongoing content support for new card sets, just like the original card game. The game is designed and built for digital gamers without compromising Magic's core gameplay. Every element of the game design is focused on an engaging and dynamic experience, true to authentic Magic, to provide players and viewers fast-paced, exciting, and easy-to-follow matches.
In Magic: The Gathering Arena players can jump right into Quick and Competitive Play using one of the five carefully crafted pre-built decks earned in the tutorial and can customize their own decks from an expansive library of current Magic cards. The game is free to download and lets players battle for rewards including in-game currency, cards, and booster packs. Players can also earn an additional five pre-built decks by completing daily quests.
Releasing only on MTG Arena on Aug.12, Jumpstart: Historic Horizons features 31 all-new, exclusive cards designed specifically for the platform featuring three new mechanics that explore what’s possible in a digital-first environment.
The three new mechanics are:
- Seek: Powerful tutors pick a random card from your deck that matches a specific criteria. No shuffle, no time spent looking—grab a random card and keep moving.
- Perpetually: Permanently change the characteristics of a card—no matter where it goes. This ability takes advantage of Arena’s ability to alter digital objects no matter where they go during the course of a game.
- Conjure: Conjure creates cards out of thin air as a digital object that acts just like a normal card would. Powerful spells and artifacts can Conjure up iconic, powerful, or just plain useful cards—from Tropical Island to Stormfront Pegasus to Ponder and more.
In addition to featuring digital-first mechanics and abilities, Jumpstart: Historic Horizons will add hundreds of new-to-Arena reprints, including cards from Modern Horizons and Modern Horizons 2, adding even more depth to Magic: The Gathering digital gameplay.
And just like 2020's digital Jumpstart release, you can craft all these cards with Wildcards of the appropriate rarity or receive them by opening packets in Jumpstart: Historic Horizons events—taking place August 12 through September 9. Note that any cards already on MTG Arena will use existing versions and follow existing duplicate protection rules.
Magic: The Gathering Arenaplayers can access Jumpstart: Historic Horizons on PC, and on mobile through the App Store and Google Play.
