NACON Acquires 'Session' Developer creā-ture Studios

by Rainier on Aug. 3, 2021 @ 9:30 a.m. PDT

Session: Skate Sim is a skateboarding sim entirely focused on creativity and freedom of expression, nothing else!

Inspired by the golden era of skateboarding, the early 90s and early 2000, Session's primary goal is to make you experience what skateboarding really is; an incredible sport where there are no other goals other than expressing your creativity and achieving success through hard work, perseverance and bits of madness for no one else other than yourself.

Sporting dual stick controls that mirror the movement of each foot, executing tricks feels as intuitive as it would in your local park, serving up the most authentic-feeling skateboarding in a video game. Included in the demo is a tutorial and outdoor skatepark to get you started. Will it be tough at first? Yeah. Will you fall face-first down a flight of stairs? Who hasn’t? It’s all about the journey, so when you land that first kickflip out of a grind, you’ll feel invincible!

So, what’s Session all about? Just like skateboarding IRL, it’s about the freedom to express yourself. Whether you’re all about perfecting that one elusive move, or have a sick line planned out for your next tape, you set your own goals in Session. Progression simply comes from honing your street chops. But what are skills if you can’t show them off to the rest of the world? With Session, creā-ture offers up the tools needed to create and share your tightest content with skaters around the world.

Whether you have no idea what goofy and mongo mean, or have a laser flip or two under your belt, Session’s here to remind you why you fell in love with the sport or give you a reason to fall for the first time (again, literally).

After picking up the publishing rights to Session earlier this year, French publisher/developer NACON has now acquired the Canadian development studio creā-ture Studios.

After acquiring 11 studios over the past 3 years, this new transaction allows NACON to consolidate its position as a developer-publisher by strengthening its expertise in the production of quality games.

NACON announces that it has finalized the signature of a protocol for the acquisition of 100% of creā-ture Studios. This transaction allows NACON to support the remarkable know-how of the team of developers specialized in the creation of skateboarding games. The acquisition of creā-ture Studios contributes to strengthening NACON’s editorial positioning in the very promising sports simulation niche, both on PC and consoles.

creā-ture Studios has built its reputation on the long experience of its founding directors, Marc-André HOUDE (20 years of experience in animation and environment creation in groups such as Ubisoft, Square Enix, Warner…) and Vincent DA SILVA (nearly 25 years of experience in programming and project management for companies such as Behaviour, Hibernum and Warner).

They will continue to lead the creā-ture Studios team, enjoying a great deal of autonomy in order to focus on the creative aspect of their productions, while benefiting from the commercial, editorial and marketing support of Nacon’s teams.

Claiming to be “the most authentic experience” in skateboarding, Session was originally planned for PC and Xbox One, with a presence since September 2019 in early access on Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview. Currently enjoying 86% positive reviews on Steam, it was decided to launch Session on Xbox Series, PS5, Xbox One, PS4 and PC in its full version.

“This acquisition is part of our ongoing external growth strategy and allows us to further expand our portfolio in the sports game segment. We are delighted to welcome the talents of CREA-TURE Studios, whose expertise and passion will strengthen our video game business,” said Alain Falc, CEO of NACON.

“We are delighted to join the NACON group, which has more than 30 years of experience in the sector. This is a great opportunity to accelerate our development and offer ever more exciting games”, said Marc-André HOUDE and Vincent DA SILVA, founding directors of creā-ture Studios.

This new external growth transaction is perfectly in line with the NACON 2023 plan, which aims to make NACON one of the leaders in ‘AA’ video games.

NACON’s “Video Games” division will have 12 development sites (7 in France, 1 in Belgium, 1 in Italy, 2 in Canada and 1 in Australia) with a total of more than 500 developers, supported by a 60-person publishing team.

Key Features:

  • No scoring system: Focus on what skateboard really is! If a handrail inspires you to do a backside lipslide, then so be it!
  • Dual stick controls: Each stick controls a foot to replicate authentic and intuitive skateboarding motions.
  • Filmer mode: Go online with friends, be the filmer and grab the gnarliest, crispiest footy you can, the way you want!
  • Play a movie: VHS-like checkpoint system. Rewind, Forward, Skip, Pause, Play your scene, replay and re-skate them until you’re proud of it.
  • Skate and destroy: Embrace street skating as you read your environment and exploit it in any way you can imagine. Cities aren’t built for skaters, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be skated.

Session is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) in summer 2022.
