'Humankind' Cultures of Africa DLC Reveals More Details Ahead Of Next Week's Launch, Available For Pre-Order - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Jan. 11, 2022 @ 11:01 a.m. PST

Humankind is a historical turn-based strategy where you'll be leading your people from the Neolithic era to the modern age, combining cultures as you progress through the eras to create your own unique civilization.

What if you could rewrite the entire narrative of human history? How would you change the course of Humankind? These are the questions at the center of Humankind.

In Humankind, you'll be combining different cultures as you progress through the eras to create a civilization that's as unique as you are. Your goal is to accumulate as much fame – or infamy -- as possible. The journey matters more than the destination, and no great deed will go unnoticed.

"When we first created Humankind, selecting only 10 cultures per era was quite the challenging process. Today we're happy to announce the first additions to our original roster of 60 cultures, with the "Cultures of Africa" DLC."

Experience thousands of years of history from the world's second largest continent with 6 new cultures spanning all eras, new natural and built wonders, independent people, and 15 new narrative events.

The "Cultures of Africa" DLC will be released on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store on January 20th for $8.99/€8.99/£6.99. Pre-order now and get 10% off!

Here's some additional detail about what's included in the DLC:

SIX NEW CULTURES

  • Era 1 – Bantu (Expansionist- Pick this culture if you want to grab a lot of land fast and early): The Bantu expansion is a postulated series of major migrations of an original Ntu-speaking group from Central- West-Africa across much of sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Era 2 – Garamantes (Agrarian - Pick this culture if you want to get food from arid Territories): The Garamantes emerged as a major regional power in the mid-second century AD. Their growth and expansion rested on a complex and extensive qanat irrigation system (known as foggaras in Berber), which supported a strong agricultural economy and large population.
  • Era 3 – Swahili (Merchant - Pick this culture if you want to get food from arid Territories): The rise of the Swahili coast city-states can be largely attributed to the region's extensive participation in a trade network that spanned the Indian Ocean.
Pick this culture if you have lots of coasts and want to take advantage of them!
  • Era 4 – Maasai (Agrarian - Pick this culture if you want to optimize your growth rate): A fierce pastoralist people with a Nilotic (rather than Bantu or Swahili) language. For the Maasai, achieving warrior status meant single-handedly killing a lion with a spear.
  • Era 5 – Ethiopians (Militarist - Pick this culture if you'd like to quickly catch up on military and science): During the Scramble for Africa, Ethiopia and Liberia were the only two nations that preserved their sovereignty from long-term colonization by a European colonial  power. By weaving the natural cliffs and ledges into the creation of their fortresses, Ethiopia was able to fend off most colonial forces.
  • Era 6 – Nigerians (Agrarian - Pick this culture to increase your oil deposits and agricultural workforce!): Nigeria unites a wide variety of cultures under the rule of one state. The variety of its terrain and the abundance of its hydraulic resources offer it significant agricultural possibilities and make it one of West Africa's foremost producers.

5 NEW WONDERS

  • Mount Kilimanjaro
  • Victoria Falls
  • Zuma Rock
  • Lake Natron
  • Great Mosque of Djenné

....PLUS 7 INDEPENDENT PEOPLE & 15 NEW NARRATIVE EVENTS

Here's what you can expect the day you launch your first game of Humankind:

  • One million civilizations– Create your own unique civilization by combining 60 different historical cultures from across the heritage of humanity. Begin as Ancient Egypt, then evolve into the Romans, the Khmers, or perhaps the Vikings—the choice is up to you. Each culture brings its own special gameplay layer, leading to near-endless outcomes.
  • More than history, it's your story - Face real historical events and figures, make great scientific discoveries, and visit the wonders of the world. Shape your people's beliefs and confront other players. Every decision you make adds a flourish to your story.
  • In the eyes of posterity– The journey matters more than destination. Fame is a new and unifying victory condition. Every great deed you accomplish, every moral choice you make, every battle won will build your fame and leave a lasting impact on the world. The player with the most fame will win the game.
  • A tactical world – Show off your tactical skills by mastering terrain elevation, city-building, full tactical battles and warfare. Choose the high ground for your city, and it will be harder to siege. Deploy your archers in the woods to avoid stampeding horsemen. Call upon your allies to help you in times of need and transform an epic battle into a full-scale multiplayer world war!

Humankind is now available on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Google Stadia.
