'Apex Legends' Defiance Update Next Month, Adds New Control Mode, Mad Maggie Character, 3rd Anniversary Rewards And More - Trailer

by Rainier on Jan. 24, 2022 @ 5:49 p.m. PST

Set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends is a free to play battle royale game with a cast of unique characters, squad-based gameplay, innovative mechanics and more.

Apex Legends delivers a squad-based battle royale experience with a uniquely Respawn flavor. Players will select from one of eight Legends - each with their own unique abilities and playstyles - and the last team standing wins. Combatants can choose from unique characters like Bloodhound, the tracker who can see recent enemy activity on the map, or Lifeline, a battlefield medic who can shield teammates and bring them back from the brink of death. Balanced squads and teamwork are critical, as each Legend is easy to pick up and learn, but challenging to master.

Apex Legends showcases several new genre-leading innovations, starting before players even start the match. Once players are ready to begin, they’ll choose their drop point with the Jumpmaster system, giving each squad full control over exactly where they drop in. Is it smarter to head straight for the most valuable loot and risk early conflict with other teams, or make for one of the outlying areas to plot an attack and let other squads pick each other off?

EA and Respawn Entertainment unleashed a brand new trailer announcing Apex Legends: Defiance, the latest major update to the hero shooter which will be launching worldwide on February 8, 2022.

For all her crimes, Mad Maggie's been condemned to fight to the death in the Games. But just who's being punished here?

Mad Maggie enters the Arena like a wrecking ball, giving players their first look at the newest Legend in action. A cutthroat punk-rock warlord and the Outlands’ meanest mad-lass, Mad Maggie is already familiar to fans from her (former) friendship with Fuse as well as her previous takeovers of the Apex Games.

For the first 3 weeks of Defiance, see whether you can handle the madness in the new Control mode. Select your loadout and drop in to a 9v9 experience where teams battle to hold control points with infinite respawn.

Additional details surrounding Apex Legends: Defiance will be available soon ahead of the update’s official launch on February 8, 2022.

Be ready for a new view from Olympus. Something's different about the floating city...but what?

The innovations don’t stop there as Apex Legends also delivers Respawn Beacons, one-time use locations where defeated teammates can be revived, a contextual Ping communication system that allows players to call out enemies, weapons, locations and more with the push of a button, and an intelligent inventory system which automatically attaches gear and equipment to the appropriate weapons once players pick them up. All together it creates a battle royale experience unlike any other, complete with Respawn’s commitment to top-notch quality and fun.

Apex Legends is now available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
