Star Citizen delivers the next generation of space flight simulation gaming, combining FPS (First Person Shooter) combat and persistent MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) gameplay to create a living, breathing first person universe capable of truly unlimited gameplay experiences. In addition, through the game's advanced Newtonian physics engine, Star Citizen enables players to experience an unparalleled space sim flying experience with ship control, performance and response calculated based on dozens of dynamically generated physics based variables.
Star Citizen will not require a subscription, and not be free-to-play, it will will be available for a one-time purchase. And while players will be able to play in the Star Citizen universe for free, there will also be virtual items available for purchase with in-game credits so players can customize their ships and other items.
Following the introduction of new content, ships, and continued improvements to in-game systems with the Dec. 22, 2021 release of Star Citizen – Alpha 3.16: Return to Jumptown, developer CIG is inviting players to 2022’s first Free Fly event, which is scheduled to begin today, Feb. 17 at approximately 08:00am (Pacific Standard Time) and will run through Feb. 25.
Star Citizen will be free to download and play for the duration of the event, including free access to a wide array of ships, discounts for select Starter Packages, new Referral Bonuses, and more.
This Free Fly also includes the ability to take part in two exciting Dynamic Events. Jumptown 2.0 recreates the renowned fan-favorite event where players join law enforcement or criminal factions in large-scale battles over lucrative drug labs across the Stanton System. The Ninetails Lockdown event finds the criminal Ninetails gang locking down a space station under the control of Crusader Security. Players can choose to side with the Ninetails gang or ally themselves with the security forces as they battle to end or continue the lockdown.

Pilots looking to grow their fleet or acquire a Starter Pack can also take advantage of limited time discounts. Additional information about discounts can be viewed on the Star Citizen website here. The event includes the release of updated Referral Bonus rewards, granting both referring and referred players a free Lodestone armor and sniper rifle set from Quirinus Tech and Gemini.
Star Citizen Starter Pack discounts are also scheduled to begin on Feb. 17 and will run through Feb. 28.
