Those of you living on the outer rim of the cosmos might be unfamiliar with the original board game, which is like the last 10 minutes of your favorite sci-fi TV show… except that things have gone disastrously wrong, and (spoiler alert) the captain is dead.
Step into the Captain's chair and command the crew! Each team member has a very particular set of skills that you'll need to leverage to the full if you want to survive. From the Chief Engineer, Weapons Officer, and visiting Admiral, all the way down to the Ensign and the ship’s Janitor, you must combine your unique talents to avoid utter annihilation in the cold depths of space!
Created in collaboration with table-top maestros, AEG and The Game Crafter, the videogame delivers all the fun of the original, cardboard experience. Players take charge of the ship’s stalwart crew, as they battle an unrelenting alien nemesis, intent on eating what little brains they have, and destroying their beloved ship. You’ll need to keep a cool head and utilise each crew member’s particular set of skills to repel boarders, keep the ship operational, and survive long enough to fix the Jump Core so you can escape to safety!
Players can expect all the tightly balanced, nail-biting strategy of the boxed game, with the immersion and flow of a fully realized virtual world. The original game’s totally unique aesthetic has been painstakingly recreated in full 3D, and you’ll feel as if you’ve been teleported right on to the board.
When your crew is facing deep-space disaster, you can always rely on one man to rock up at the eleventh hour and save your sorry butts… Duke Nukem! That’s why Thunderbox Entertainment have enlisted legendary voice actor, Jon St. John, to provide the voice for the final crew member in their laser-powered, space survival strategy game, The Captain is Dead.
Jon lends his inimitable brand of machismo to the ship’s lovable (but slightly over-reaching) underdog, the Janitor, whose ability to fix shipboard systems with nothing but duct tape and chewing gum has made him a favourite amongst players of the original board game.
Mr. Nukem himself joins an impressive and diverse cast featuring Elias Toufexis (Immortals - Fenyx Rising, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Far Cry Primal, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Deus Ex), Kevan Brighting (The Stanley Parable, Void Bastards, Portal) to complete a cast of amazing actors, all eager to avoid a horrible, tentacle-induced death, as they follow your strategy for survival, repair the ship and, hopefully, hyperspace the heck out of trouble!
So, when you need to introduce an alien invader to the business end of your boot, you know the accompanying one-liner will be stylishly delivered.
And have you ever wondered what Mr. Spok would sound like if he was played by David Bowie? Well now you don’t have to! Along with the Janitor, the First Officer is also beaming up, rounding out the crew to its full complement of 18 members. This softly spoken, effortlessly cool commander brings a whole new set of tactics for dealing with the imminent alien threat – selecting him for your crew is the logical choice!
These two new space-farers are joined by a host of updates and improvements, including new HUD options, an increased crew size, rule updates and online leader-boards so you can prove to your friends once and for all that you are the baddest dude in the galaxy!
