Telltale has partnered with AdHoc Studio, a creative house formed by former Telltale Games employees and focused on interactive narrative, to resume work on and co-develop the second season of the award-winning The Wolf Among Us series.

In August of this year, LCG Entertainment completed its purchase of the Telltale Games brand, assets, and technology with the intent to revive the original company’s back catalog of games and to develop new games based on the company’s popular licensed IPs. The Wolf Among Us 2 is the first new game to be announced since the purchase and is licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on behalf of DC. The title was revealed tonight during the telecast of The Game Awards.

Returning to work on The Wolf Among Us 2 via AdHoc are directors, Nick Herman and Dennis Lenart; along with writer Pierre Shorette. Also returning are the award-winning voice actors, Adam Harrington as Bigby Wolf, and Erin Yvette as Snow White and composer Jared Emerson-Johnson. Additionally, Telltale Game’s former VP of Engineering, Zac Litton, has joined the new Telltale team as CTO.

Fairytales are real — and living side-by-side with everyday people in New York City. Because of course you want to go where the good pizza is made. But I digress.

These fables still need to blend in and, well, live among us. The Big Bad Wolf (Bigby)? He’s the sheriff, keeping folks in line. Snow White helps run things – and there’s a whole host of familiar fables that are just  trying to get by.

The new trailer gives you a small taste of things to come – including stretching your legs outside of Fabletown to see more of The Big Apple, in the winter of 1980. That’s right, this new season takes place six months after the events in season one. As Bigby, you take on a case that spans the normal – mundie – world, torn between who you’re going to help. Ah, but we can’t go too much deeper into the story quite yet.

Geoff Keighley chatted with Jamie Ottilie, CEO of the new Telltale, and Nick Herman, AdHoc Studio co-founder and director for The Wolf Among Us 2. They discussed new and returning characters in the sequel, some of the game’s key themes, working with a new Unreal-based engine, and how the development process for the new season differs from that of the first game. He also caught up with Adam Harrington and Erin Yvette, the voice actors for the game’s beloved lead characters “Bigby” (the Big Bad Wolf) and “Snow” (Snow White) to discuss what it’s like to revisit the world of Fabletown and these characters after so many years.

Key details revealed include the introduction of The Scarecrow and Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz, and a new “Mundy” (human) character named Faye Leung, a New York detective who figures prominently in the new key art. Season Two finds Bigby suspended from his sheriff duties and attending anger management therapy, just one of the many internal struggles the character will face as he tries to discover where he best fits in TWAU2. Ottilie and Herman also stated that The Wolf Among Us 2 is slated for release sometime in 2023.

“The Wolf Among Us world is such a distinctively rich one and, after all this time, we felt it important to update our community and the fans in a meaningful way,” said Jamie Ottilie, Telltale CEO. “What better way to do it than to invite them to sit down for a chat with us on location actually inside the game itself.

Based on Bill Willingham’s Fables comic book series from DC, The Wolf Among Us is a five-episode prequel, 20 years prior to the events of the comic books. The series features various characters from fairy tales and folklore, known as Fables, who inhabit a clandestine community within New York City known as Fabletown. Having won critical acclaim and nominations for BAFTA and D.I.C.E. Awards, as well as garnering awards for Game Direction and some of the performances, The Wolf Among Us has amassed a significant fan following and anticipation for a second season.

The Wolf Among Us 2 is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Epic Games Store) in 2023.
