Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer (4vs1) horror game where one player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors, trying to escape the Killer and avoid being caught, tortured and killed.
Survivors play in third-person and have the advantage of better situational awareness. The Killer plays in first-person and is more focused on their prey.
The Survivors' goal in each encounter is to escape the Killing Ground without getting caught by the Killer - something that sounds easier than it is, especially when the environment changes every time you play.
The game features procedurally generated levels, so players never experience a repetitive map. Be the killer and massacre all your victims before they escape, by using your speed and power in 1st person, or team up with your friends to try and outwit the killer with your superior awareness and agility in a 3rd person's view as he hunts you through a nightmare world.
Players take on the role of both killer and survivors in a deadly game of cat and mouse. It’s a Mature Gamer take on the thrills of Hide & Seek!
During its special anniversary broadcast, Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive celebrated six years and 50 million players for the hit action horror game with a bang today.
The publisher first unveiled the details of its next original Chapter, Roots of Dread, coming out on June 7th.
Fans also learned about Dead by Daylight’s first visual novel, Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim, as well as a highly anticipated anime-inspired Collection: Attack on Titan.
The event culminated with a big mic drop when the team revealed that a new Resident Evil Chapter: PROJECT W, is coming soon.
Fear Knows No End With Newest Chapter: Roots of Dread
What is fear? What is it made of and what fuels it? That’s what fans will try to answer as they meet the latest Killer to step into the Fog: The Dredge. A formless mass of twisted limbs writhing in the shadows, The Dredge is nothing less than a manifestation of darkness itself. With a “monster under the bed” approach, it comes with a very special Power: the ability to teleport between Lockers to catch unsuspecting Survivors when they feel safe out of harm’s reach.
Those who prefer to play as Survivor will have their share of excitement as they get to personify the brave and bold Haddie Kaur. Born in India, Haddie moved to Quebec with her family as a child. After losing her biological parents in a tragic car accident, she was raised by a Quebec family who were close friends of her parents. Haddie’s foray into the paranormal came early on, fuelling her with courage, determination, and a dash of morbid curiosity. Having fought monsters in the past makes her one of the few Survivors prepared to face off with Killers in the Entity’s Realm. Fans may recognize her from her appearances in the Archives and can now take the reins of her destiny as a Survivor.
The Garden of Joy is the new disturbing Map players will get to experience - a scenic paradise set in a quaint American town hiding big secrets. The main building for this Map will be a classic family home, a ghostly symbol of domestic horror set against a cold and dreadful backdrop.
“We’re thrilled to be offering our players an original Chapter for the game’s anniversary this year. Dead by Daylight has grown and diversified itself tremendously since its creation, and with Roots of Dread, we focused on the essence of the game: visceral fear and the thrill of the hunt,” explains Dave Richard, Creative Director for Dead by Daylight. “The Dredge is a strange and creepy monster with a unique design, a first for Dead by Daylight Killers. It lurks and hunts from the shadows with the power to engulf Survivors in darkness, and I believe this makes for a very intense experience for all players.”
Roots of Dread will be available on June 7th on Steam, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Epic Games Store, Windows Store, Nintendo Switch and Stadia.
Dead by Daylight: Resident Evil: PROJECT W Coming Later this Year
In June of 2021, Behaviour Interactive teamed up with Capcom to bring the iconic Resident Evil characters Nemesis, Jill Valentine and Leon S. Kennedy to Dead by Daylight, giving life to one of the game’s most acclaimed Chapters. This year, fans will be thrilled to learn that the two horror powerhouses are joining forces once again. Resident Evil comes to The Fog with a new Chapter in 2022, featuring even more characters from the legendary horror franchise.
Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim
The Dead by Daylight community is famous for its love of romance, steamy references and... shirtless outfits! After surveying its players and noting that one of the most longed for Dead by Daylight experience across its entire fan base was a dating simulator, the development team decided to quench this thirst for love and romance with Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim.
Available for PC (Steam) later this year, the very first Dead by Daylight visual novel is an interactive game that allows players to romance their favorite Killers. To develop as rich an experience as possible, the team collaborated with Psyop, the creators of the immensely successful visual novel I Love You, Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin’ Good Dating Simulator.
Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim takes players on Murderer’s Island. Their companions: four dead-sexy Killers who, underneath their murderous exteriors, just want a little romance. Fans flirt their way into the hearts of The Huntress, The Spirit, The Trapper, and The Wraith, uncovering dark twists along the way. Will they find true love, forge friendships or get hacked to death? Only they can decide. As mystery unfolds, it’s their job to make sense of it all. What brought them here? Where did these Killers come from? Why do they show so much interest? And, most importantly, if only one had to be chosen for love… who would it be? Because in this new visual novel, choice is the name of the game. This summer, fans will get to know Dead by Daylight’s Killers like never before, and truly discover what makes each of them tick – beyond their general love of murder and mayhem, of course!
“You wanted it? You got it! Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim mixes horror, humor and romance to create a fresh way for fans to interact and create an emotional bond with their favorite Killers,” says Mathieu Côté, Head of Partnerships for Dead by Daylight. “Our goal with our first visual novel is to provide fans with a completely unique and surprising new way to experience the world of Dead by Daylight.”
Attack on Titan: The First Anime-Inspired Collection
Dead by Daylight’s rich portfolio of characters, and their various customizable outfits, are among the keystones of the game’s global success. Anime and manga-inspired content have been widely requested by fans, so they will be thrilled to know that the game’s first major crossover with an anime title is coming in the form of a Collection: Attack on Titan. One of the world’s most popular manga series of all time, the Japanese award-winning creation has been adapted for magazines, novels, live-action series and video games. The Attack on Titan Collection, available soon, will feature 10 different outfits for both Killers and Survivors. The Collection was carefully crafted to suit the personalities and resemblance of the characters of both franchises. Among other fan favorites, players will be happy to discover Dwight as Eren, Zarina as Hange, as well the Oni as the Armored Titan.
Dead by Daylight Mobile Coming Back in Force
Since its launch in 2020, Dead by Daylight Mobile has reached several milestones: hitting one million downloads just 48 hours after its release and now, two years later, having reached 25 million players globally on iOS and Android. Mobile players will be excited to learn that a major update is in the works and that they can expect new features soon. Among other enhancements, they’ll see new leaderboards, quick match and social systems, as well as major improvements in control layout, visual performance and fluidity of gameplay. Recently launched in Japan to tremendous results, the major update will progressively be released globally, with a closed beta test hitting the United States within the next few weeks.
