'Blood Bowl III' Kicks Off Next PC Beta Phase, Adds Chaos Renegades And Old World Alliance Factions, New Pitches - Trailer

by Rainier on June 1, 2022 @ 3:24 p.m. PDT

Blood Bowl III is a turn-based strategy game inspired by American football set in the Warhammer fantasy world.

Strap on your boots, don your helmet, adjust your shoulder guards and chest plate… and slip a sharpened dagger into your belt (it's the rules).

The iconic death sport returns with the new video game of fantasy football faithfully using the latest board game rules and new content. Create your team, then crush, mulch and cheat your way to the top... leaving your opponents in the graveyard.

Blood Bowl III is a videogame of fantasy football where elves, humans, orcs and other creatures fight for the ball with shoulder charges, kicks, punches and weapons of varying degrees of lethality (and legality by the ref). As the coach, you must give instructions to your players: hinder the progress of your opponents by positioning them in your tackle zone, knock down those who get in your way, and break through to your opponents' end zone to score a touchdown!

All your units can gain experience and receive statistic bonuses or new skills. However, be careful: injuries are common, especially when the referee is a goblin who tends to overlook most forms of violence. Some players may even leave the field limp and lifeless, putting an early and definitive end to their careers.

NACON and Cyanide Studio kicked off a new beta phase for Blood Bowl 3, running from June 1st to 12 June 2022 on PC (Steam).

There will be six playable factions in this beta: the Black Orcs, the Imperial Nobility, the Elven Union, the Dwarfs and two new factions (Chaos Renegades and Old World Alliance), which will be appearing for the first time in a Blood Bowl video game, and introduces a new feature: the pitches and their specific gameplay rules. Gautier Bresard, project manager for Blood Bowl 3, presents those new features in the video above.

Bitter rejects, die-hard cheats or blatant foulers: Chaos Renegades teams represent the real flotsam and jetsam of the Blood Bowl world – players so maladjusted that no coach worth their salt would let them play on their roster. Orcs, Skavens, Dark Elves and even Trolls, Ogres and Minotaurs team up with the most vicious Humans. While their diversity gives these teams a physical advantage, most of the players refuse to play nicely or turn up to practices together!

Speaking of diversity, the Old World Alliance teams also have their say. In the bustling pubs of the cities of the Old World, former drinking buddies band together into teams of their own. Mixing the raw strength of Ogres and Treemen, the agility of Halflings, the obstinacy of Dwarves and the balanced playstyle of Humans, Old World Alliance teams make the most of each member’s talents.

The Chaos Chosen pitch is an ode to desolation: a barren stone ground lined by giant sculpted skulls and stands separated by a ditch that the losers are thrown into. The pitch becomes an open-sky torture chamber when any of the players spill blood on the ground: the ditches fill with molten lava, and  the players, assailed by the heat, find it more difficult to move and, if worse comes to worst, fall victim to heat stroke and have to recover on the sideline.

Another of the introduced pitches is dedicated to one of the Gods of Chaos: Nurgle. This swamp, already intimidating in itself, awakens when a player dies during the play. Carnivorous plants then sprout, and a horde of worms begins writhing over the pitch, making it difficult for the fastest players to run and catch the ball.

The last pitch presented is that of the Dark Elves. This wooden pitch is over water, giving the impression that it’s more suitable for sailors than players. When the first touchdown is scored and the roars of the crowd reach a peak, this strange aquatic scene becomes a nightmare as a tentacled monster is roused. The platform becomes unstable and it becomes more difficult for stunned players to regain their senses. Finally, those who move too quickly may draw the monster's attention and find themselves attacked!

Blood Bowl III is a faithful adaptation of the Games Workshop board game, which is to receive a new edition this year. The game will use the new edition rules, teams (including the new Black Orcs and Imperial Nobility), units and associated skills. The best strategists will obviously be at an advantage, but will that be enough? All it takes is one unfortunate roll of the dice to change the course of a match.

Funnier, bloodier and more spectacular than ever, Blood Bowl III will be a hit with fans of the universe and competitive players alike. At launch, the game will include 12 races, each with their own arena and team of cheerleaders, campaign and multiplayer modes, and loads of customization options. Regular content updates will be added after launch.

Brutal, crazy, tactical… this is BLOOD BOWL!

Blood Bowl III will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch in 2022.
