'Exoprimal' Reveals More Game Details, Accepting Closed Network Test Sign-ups, Shows Gameplay - Screens & Trailer

Exoprimal is a team-based action game set to unleash a prehistoric blast from the past on the near future, blending a new co-op experience with a competitive edge.

Suit up in powered armor to put down dinosaur invasions and save humanity from extinction when the Exofighters deploy for battle.

It’s 2040 and the planet is in crisis. Dinosaurs are appearing from thin air and laying waste to cities across the globe. Threatened by history’s deadliest creatures, the world turns to the powerful Aibius Corporation and its revolutionary technology for help. The company’s next-generation AI, Leviathan, can forecast where dinosaur outbreaks will occur and deploy Exofighters to the area. Armed with state-of-the-art mechanized combat armor known as Exosuits, these warriors represent humanity’s last hope.

Vortexes are opening in the sky, flooding cities with deadly creatures from the prehistoric era. As raptors cascade from above and Tyrannosaurus Rexes stomp through the streets, it’s up to squads of five brave Exofighters in mechanized combat armor, known as Exosuits, to fight back against the dinosaurs who threaten to push humanity toward extinction.

Exoprimal pioneers a new multiplayer experience rooted in co-op – but with a competitive edge. In the game’s main mode, Dino Survival, teams fight for every breath against countless dinosaurs while racing to complete missions before rival squads in 5v5 matches. A dynamic mix of objectives keeps players on their guard and ensures each match is different form the last. Exofighters will need to stay on their toes as hunts transition into precious cargo deliveries or desperate last stands against relentless assaults. Opposing teams are even given opportunities to tackle adversaries head-on and impede their progress. While Exoprimal is purely focused around multiplayer, a narrative is interwoven throughout the game. Players can sink their teeth into the world’s rich history and colorful characters by unlocking new story threads and piecing together the mystery behind the dinosaur outbreaks.

Suit Up

We’ve previously covered four Exosuits: the sharp-shooting Deadeye, a ranged assault suit with sustained firepower; the aptly-named Roadblock, a tank suit that protects the team with its shield; the fleet-footed Zephyr, a melee assault suit that excels in cutting through groups; and the Witchdoctor, a support suit that keeps squads fighting fit. Today, we’re introducing two more assault suits that will join the fray, each specializing in a different kind of combat to eliminate dinosaur hordes (or an opposing Exofighter squad).

First up, Barrage brings the heat at close quarters, carving an explosive path of fire and destruction through anything that stands between them and their objective. Meanwhile, the newly revealed Vigilant takes a more pointed approach, preferring to use a long-range railgun to unleash deadly, precise shots on dinosaurs and opposing Exosuits alike. We’ll have more info on each of these suits at a later date, so keep your eyes open for more info soon.

Aside from your suits, you’ll also have access to a powerful customization option known as rigs. These useful additions serve a variety of roles that can enhance a suit’s existing capabilities or make up for deficiencies in a given Exosuit’s arsenal. Equip the Cannon for a long-range attack (even if you’re using a melee range suit like Zephyr), or try equipping the Aid rig on a Roadblock to effectively heal your teammates while shielding them from danger! Rigs allow an extra layer of customization to your personal playstyle, and, just like your suit, can be changed at any time – even in the middle of combat!

Behind these suits and their incredible ability to stand up to the incoming dinosaur menace is Leviathan – an AI that can predict where dinosaurs will appear next and has the ability to design even more powerful Exosuits using combat data. Developed by the Aibius Corporation, this next-generation AI guides Exofighters through the world of Exoprimal via voice navigation and augmented reality displays. Among the many tasks that this AI handles, Leviathan will also guide Exofighters through the game’s main mode: Dino Survival. As helpful as Leviathan seems, there’s something disturbing about the combat trials and wargames it creates, requiring Exofighters to compete against one another in order to claim victory.

Adapt

Leviathan isn’t the type to hand out standard-issue challenges, and that means every match of Dino Survival will keep you on the tips of your armored toes at all times. The ability to change your suit even in the heat of combat comes in handy when objectives change dynamically based on Leviathan’s wild impulses. These ever-shifting goals ensure no two matches will play out the same way. For example, your team’s first objective might be Dinosaur Cull. This mission type is just what it says on the tin, pitting your squad against specific targets or waves of dinos that you’ll be required to exterminate in order to proceed. Omega Charge, on the other hand, provides a massive hammer that’s used to obliterate targets. Energy Taker requires that you and your teammates gather up energy drops that dot the map in order to move forward.

Every success brings your team closer to victory, but there’s no time to rest when you’ve got an opposing Exofighter squad to worry about, too. You’ll be racing against another team to complete objectives first, and any given match can put you in direct conflict with them in order to survive. Leviathan is only interested in the best combat data, after all.

Survive

Each match of Exoprimal can change wildly depending on Leviathan’s objectives, so you’ll need to be prepared for anything… up to and including working with the opposing team. Not every match will result in conflict, as players on both teams may need to put aside their differences to take on terrifying new foes together. The fearsome Neo T. Rex is one of these mutated monstrosities, and both teams must cooperate to take it down before time runs out.

Aside from these strange new creatures, existing dinosaurs have been changed in their trip through space and time, taking on new properties. Triceratops, known to be herbivores and typically considered docile, have become violent and prone to charging at enemies with their horns. Raptors, already nimble and cunning, form massive packs that can easily overwhelm an unsuspecting team. There are even mutated raptors such as the Gas Neosaur that explodes when it’s defeated, or the Sniper Neosaur that can unleash powerful projectiles upon unsuspecting Exofighters. You’ll need to stay aware of your surroundings and take out these unique threats quickly.

And Get Ready to Deploy

To cap things off, a Closed Network Test is on the way for PC players via Steam! Now’s your chance to be one of the first to check out the world of Exoprimal and the frantic and fun action that lies ahead. Head to the official page to sign up today and learn more about the Closed Network Test taking place this July.

Exofighters are always outnumbered and must work together to overcome overwhelming odds. Their Exosuits come in an array of classes, each playing a distinct role in combat. Assault models like the marksman Deadeye and the melee-oriented Zephyr excel at cutting down enemy swarms. Meanwhile, tanks such as the shield-bearing Roadblock and support types like the vital Witchdoctor help keep everyone alive to fight another day. Every model is outfitted with a unique armory and special abilities. Thanks to the efforts of the Aibius Corporation, Exosuits can be swapped out in the middle of combat, allowing your team to change tactics at a moment’s notice without having to disengage from a fight.

Aibius is also behind the development of Leviathan, an artificial intelligence which is instrumental in predicting where vortexes will open next. Leviathan acts as a navigator, providing constantly evolving objectives throughout each match, and instructing your squad on what your next task will be.

Your elite team will always be outnumbered by massive swarms of dinosaurs, but between the power of Exosuits and Leviathan’s guidance, you’ll be able to slowly piece together what’s going on in the world of Exoprimal. As you play, you’ll unlock narrative elements and story threads that will weave together to provide more insight into this near-future world plagued by dinosaur outbreaks.

Exoprimal is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) in 2023.
