'Green Hell' Building Update Coming Later This Month, Will Let You Build Treehouses And More

by Rainier on Jan. 12, 2023 @ 3:41 p.m. PST

Green Hell is a first-person, psychological survival simulator set in the uncharted depths of the sweltering Amazon rainforest.

In Green Hell the player is dropped into the impenetrable, emerald depths of the Amazon rain forest; the Green Hell. Having no memory of how you got there, your goal is simple: survive. Stuck in a beautifully nightmarish environment, it will take fortitude of mind and the most primitive of means to escape.

With only a radio at your disposal the player will follow a familiar voice through a seemingly endless and ruthlessly inhospitable jungle. Bit by bit, you will unveil more of the mystery of how you came to be in this hostile situation, and what you discover just might be worse than what you fought so hard against to survive.

Clinging to life, the player is set on a journey of durability as the effects of solitude wear heavy not only on the body but also the mind. How long can you survive against the dangers of the unknown?

Fans of Creepy Jar’s Green Hell have been eagerly waiting for the game’s Building Update—detailed in the 2022 Road Map—to arrive and they’re happy to discover the full update will release for PC players on January 23.

For the first time in years, Creepy Jar opened up a pre-update beta (PUB, for short) to their dedicated player base so they could get crucial feedback from those who enjoy Green Hell the most. Thousands of hardcore fans joined in—with a whopping 39% of participants declaring they’d already played 100+ hours of the game—and gave Creepy Jar what was needed to not only make the Building Update as good as it can be but also gave Creepy Jar some fun new ideas along the way.

Thanks to the results of the recent PUB, the Green Hell Building Update will add a ton of new content to the game including the ability to build treehouses, build on water, and even sees a much-desired update to the in-game notebook. See below for some of the additions fans can expect to see on Jan. 23rd:

  • Build your home in the trees - Utilizing a new Climbing Rope construction, players can head to the treetops to build their very own treehouse! Find the biggest tree around—covered with Indigo Blue Leptonia Mushrooms and Banisteropsis Vine—and assemble your two-story Wooden/Bamboo Treehouse and connect it via a Footbridge to other Tree Platforms.
  • Whatever floats your boat - The new Floating Frame platform will allow Players to build their abode up to 3 floors high right on the water.
  • 3-sided fun - Use new Wooden/Bamboo Triangular Frames to create a more unique home than ever before.
  • STAY OUT! - Keep out unwanted visitors with Wooden/Bamboo Doors.
  • More building material options - Bamboo and Wood everywhere! Build walls, roofs, and ceilings out of the material of your fancy.
  • Hit ‘em hard - No predator is safe when players wield the all-new Heavy Stone Axe.
  • Efficient building - Place more than one construction at a time to speed up your building process.
  • Revamped notebook - The player notebook is slimmer and more organized than ever.
  • Clear your path - Cut down big palms, logs, stumps, and branches to clear your path all through the Amazon.

Key Features

  • Survive the Amazon - Resource management, base building, crafting, hunting, wound inspection, sanity management, and more. Green Hell relentlessly puts players to the ultimate survival test in the remote reaches of the Amazon rainforest.
  • Story Mode - How did you end up in the Amazon? What happened to your love, Mia? How can you escape? How can you survive? Seeking answers to these questions will take you to the brink of sanity as you rediscover well-known areas and discover new areas for the first time.
  • Survive TOGETHER - Up to 4 players can tackle the rainforest together in the ultimate bid for survival! Whether it’s story mode or endless mode, you can look forward to pulling leeches from all your friends’ nether-parts and more in co-op mode!
  • And more! - Whether it’s custom modes, achievement chasing, tackling unique challenges, or building the best jungle hut south of the equator, Green Hell is a robust experience that continues to grow with each update from the Creepy Jar team.

Green Hell is available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC (Steam).
