'Hearthstone' Rolls Out v27.6 Update Today, Showdown in the Badlands Expansion Planned For November

by Rainier on Oct. 17, 2023 @ 5:04 p.m. PDT

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is a free-to-play strategy card game where players build card decks centered around one of nine iconic Warcraft character classes and duel each other for fun, glory, and the chance to win awesome new cards.

Deceptively simple in design but epically engaging, Hearthstone will be instantly accessible to players regardless of their familiarity with Warcraft or collectible card games. Whether players prefer to wield magic or arms in battle, strike from the shadows or head on—or have never given any of that much thought—they’ll be able to jump right in, create a deck, and get in on the card-slinging action.

In addition to honing their skills in practice matches against the computer and taking on their buddies via their Battle.net friends list, players can challenge each other in two competitive game modes. “Play Mode” features traditional head-to-head battles, with players facing off for a chance to increase their medal ranking and earn card packs along the way. And for a different type of challenge, players can enter “The Forge,” where they start each match by building a deck from a new set of cards, and then use that deck to duel other Forge participants. Aside from winning new cards, players will be able to round out their collections by purchasing new card packs or disenchanting some of their existing cards to craft the ones they’re missing.

With hundreds of cards to choose from, featuring a wide range of colorful Warcraft spells, weapons, and characters, players will have limitless possibilities for developing and fine-tuning their deck-building strategies.

Battlegrounds is a game mode where eight players face off in 1v1 rounds, with the goal to be the last player standing. Each round consists of two phases. The Recruit Phase lets players purchase and sell minions, upgrade the tavern, use their hero power, and rearrange their minions' attack order. Combat Phase has minions automatically attacking the opponents' until one player (or both) has no minions remaining, at which point the victor attacks the loser.

HOWDY, PARTNER!

Hearthstone is headed to the Wild West in November with Showdown in the Badlands!

The evil Bloodrock Mining Company, run by the dastardly Sheriff Barrelbrim, have set up a ramshackle mining venture to drain Azeroth of its Azerite resources. Will the outlaws, led by the likes of Elise Starseeker, be able to save Azeroth from the sinister townsfolk that threaten to destroy the entirety of the Badlands?

You can pre-purchase now to stake your claim on 145 brand new cards, including Legendary Outlaws, a new Keyword: Quickdraw, and a second new Keyword: Excavate!

CALAMITY COMES TO TOWN

  • The Showdown in the Badlands expansion consists of 145 new collectible cards and is coming in November!
  • The Showdown in the Badlands Pre-Purchase Mega Bundle includes 80 packs, 10 Golden packs, 1 random Signature Legendary, 1 random Golden Legendary, and the Ulfar Hero Skin and cardback. The Standard Bundle includes 60 packs, 2 non-golden random Legendary cards, and the Ulfar cardback.
  • Upon login starting October 17, all players will receive the Legendary Thunderbringer, with Taunt and Deathrattle: Summon an Elemental and Beast from your deck.

INTRODUCING ALL NEW MECHANICS

  • New Keyword: Quickdraw: In the Badlands, being quick on the draw might just save your hide. Cards with the Quickdraw keyword get a bonus on the turn they are added to your hand. Shoot cards off as soon as you draw them for optimal outcome!
  • New Keyword: Excavate: Riches are plentiful if you can find them! Cards with the Excavate keyword get you treasures from the Azerite mine. Every time you Excavate, you’ll get a random excavated treasure from whatever tier you’re on, then move to the next tier. After receiving a treasure from the last tier, that mine is tapped out and you’ll start over in a new vein.
  • Legendary Excavate Treasures: Only the townsfolk will be able to obtain a class-specific Legendary Excavate Treasure when they Excavate for a fourth time – Death Knight, Mage, Rogue, Warlock, and Warrior.
  • Legendary Outlaws. Demon Hunter, Druid, Hunter, Paladin, Priest, and Shaman are our good-guy Outlaws. Each of these classes gets a powerful collectible Legendary outlaw minion that gets a bonus effect if you have no duplicates in your deck.

NOVEMBER SEASON OF TWIST

  • Un’Goro returns in the November Season of Twist! Build decks using cards from the Un’Goro and Wonders sets. Note that there will not be Demon Hunter or Death Knight classes for this Twist.

A BONANZA OF EVENTS

  • Get in the mood this spooky season with the return of the Hallow’s End event. Hosted by a familiar headless horseman, earn wild west costume cosmetics for your heroes. Plus, participate in special BlizzCon quests to earn a special cardback.

Patch 27.6, launching today, is a huge patch that introduces Hearthstone’s next expansion, Showdown in the Badlands, brings Un'Goro to Twist, makes Battlegrounds mid-season adjustments, and includes goodies for Blizzcon and Hallow’s End festivities!
