Isonzo takes place on the southern front of the Great War, immersing players into the titanic clash between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Inspired by the two year struggle for the Isonzo river, Isonzo will see players deploy to new WW1 battlefields which are beautiful but deadly in equal measure. The fighting takes place among the scenic peaks, rugged valleys and idyllic towns of northern Italy. The brand new Offensive game mode puts players right in the middle of key historical offensives on the Italian Front, from high-altitude combat in the Alps through to the ferocious battles for the Isonzo river.
Isonzo is the third game in the WW1 Game Series, and introduces players to high-altitude Alpine warfare in Northeast Italy. Tannenberg revolves around the large-scale maneuver warfare seen on the Eastern Front, and Verdun - the game that started everything - immerses players into intense close-quarters trench warfare on the Western Front.
Isonzo builds on the rock solid and authentic base of the WW1 Game Series, taking the intensity of Verdun and combining it with the scale of Tannenberg. It breaks new ground in the Alps with a complete feature overhaul - including a brand new historically driven game mode - to take the series to the next level and immerse players like never before!
Accurately modelled weapons, uniforms and sound effects will immerse players into WW1 battlefields. Everything in Isonzo down to trench designs and significant landmarks have been recreated from historical sources - ranging from films and diaries to modern photographs of the battlefields taken on research trips. The new Offensive game mode challenges players to lead the charge across stunning Italian landscapes, or prepare their defense on dynamic battlefields. The tactical situation can change at any moment!
React to battlefield conditions by choosing your role and loadout carefully: snipe enemy engineers from mountainsides to stop them cutting your wire, use rifle grenades to clear enemy strong points across the river, or call in artillery barrages as an officer. This is a battle for the fate of nations, and both sides will unleash their huge arsenals of weapons. Players will handle everything from bayonets and machine guns to mortars and rifle grenades - if that’s not doing the job, they can call in support from heavy artillery barrages, bombing runs, or lethal poison gas.
The Great War on the Italian Front is brought to life and elevated to unexpected heights! But remember - it’s not the mountain we conquer, but the enemy.
Fight among snow-covered peaks and conquer the Queen of the Dolomites: the Marmolada! In the White War expansion, the battle will take place in and above the Ice City that the Austro-Hungarians carved out beneath the Marmolada glacier. Will the Italian army be able to flush them out and take control of the Marmolada?
Marmolada is the first map of the free White War expansion releasing on Steam, PlayStation 5 & 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One and the Epic Games Store. The new map includes new weapons for all troops, and for $9.99 / €9.99 players can now also add the Glacial Units Pack to their collection, which features visual customization options for Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops more befitting of the heights.
To celebrate the launch, everyone can try Isonzo during a Free Weekend on Steam until November 13th. Additionally, until November 28th, the base game is now available at the highest discount so far: -67%!
Join the battle at unthinkable heights!
The Marmolada glacier is the only glacier of the Dolomites, and it is here, on the border between Austria-Hungary and Italy, that both sides built their defenses during the First World War. Italian soldiers set up camp on the mountain’s precipices to the south, while the Austro-Hungarians, realizing that the thick layer of ice would offer them protection from both Italian soldiers and harsh weather conditions, dug a network of tunnels beneath the glacier to create the “Ice City”. The battle on this front line lasted almost the entire war and had no victors, instead claiming victims from both sides through either warfare or the rough Alpine climate.
With this first map of the free new White War expansion, soldiers in Isonzo can now ascend to the highest peak of the Dolomites and fight the opposing army. Will you find your way through the blue caves of the Ice City, or will you choose to attack your enemies from above?
Creative Director and founder of BlackMill Games Jos Hoebe says: “The battles that took place in the Alps are some of the most iconic of the First World War, in which soldiers had to fight nature just as much, if not more, than they did each other. These beautiful and deadly landscapes inspired us to create Isonzo and bring the war to these heights, and so we are excited to launch the White War, starting with the Marmolada map. And of course we have much more planned around these mountains that we can’t wait to reveal!”
Time to pull on those snow boots
Battling in such extreme situations calls for proper equipment, and although the soldiers stationed on the Marmolada in the earlier years of the war were often severely underdressed for the occasion, they were not completely empty-handed. To prepare you for the unforgiving conditions among the peaks, additional weapons for all armies are added to the game with the release of the new map: the M14 Repetiergewehr for Austro-Hungarian soldiers, the Vetterli mod. 1870 for the Italian army and the Gewehr 1871/84 for German troops.
The Glacial Units Pack is now also available on Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation and Xbox, which adds a variety of improvised uniforms cobbled together by soldiers to help withstand the deadly climate of Europe’s highest peaks. This pack includes two sets of uniforms for all classes as well as a selection of warm headgear, mustaches, beards, facial items and faces. The contents of the Glacial Units Pack are purely cosmetic and do not affect gameplay in any way.
And that’s not all, for we are working on Isonzo’s special event! Much like Verdun’s Christmas Truce and Tannenberg’s Wolf Truce, this will force players to play in a different way and will elevate the gameplay to new heights...
