Charitable capsuleers.
Early this week in the dead of night, two massive earthquakes struck in the southern part of Türkiye, devastating nearby cities and those in neighboring Syria as far as 300 miles from the earthquake epicenters.
More than 300,000 people have been forced to leave their homes and over 21,000 people have lost their lives with this number sadly increasing over time. The world has mobilized relief efforts with doctors, nurses, search & rescue, engineers, emergency shelter staff, and many other lifesaving specialists. This includes the Icelandic elite search and rescue team who have described the freezing and extremely difficult conditions in which the collective rescue effort operates in their attempts to unearth the people who have been buried underneath the rubble.
Also affected are the millions of refugees residing on both sides of the border whom have been displaced from their own country living in flimsy shelters, tents, and partially destroyed buildings as well as the communities that have been generously hosting them for many years.
Lastly, we have capsuleers that are directly affected by this disaster. We have seen and now act on your calls for a PLEX for GOOD campaign.
What is PLEX for GOOD?
PLEX for GOOD is a charitable giving project operated by CCP Games which allows players to convert their in-game currency into real world money which is then donated to charities and NGOs on their behalf. Since 2005, EVE Online players have raised over $1.2 million for humanitarian relief across a range of crises:
- 2005 - $25,326 – Southeast Asia (tsunami)
- 2010 - $34,350 – Haiti (earthquake)
- 2010 - $38,900 – Pakistan (monsoon)
- 2011 - $44,600 – Japan (earthquake and tsunami)
- 2011 - $32,900 – United States (Hurricane Irene)
- 2013 - $190,890 – Philippines (Typhoon Haiyan)
- 2015 - $103,650 – Nepal (earthquake)
- 2020 - $107,454 - Australia (bushfires)
- 2020 - $135,550 - Global (COVID-19)
- 2022 - $501,652 – War in Ukraine
How long will this campaign run?
The campaign will be active as of now and will run until 23:59:59 UTC on 21 February 2023.
How can I contribute?
Making a donation is very simple. It’s just a matter of contracting PLEX to the in-game character CCP PLEX for GOOD which is an account operated by CCP Games. Before you can contract PLEX, you must first move the PLEX from your PLEX vault and place it into your Item Hangar by dragging it from the PLEX vault and dropping it into your Item Hangar. Your contracts will be accepted daily and added to the pool of PLEX donations.
At the conclusion of the campaign, the PLEX collected will be converted back into real life currency by CCP Games and then delivered to our charity partner on behalf of the capsuleers of New Eden.
We are requesting that players respect a minimum donation of 200 PLEX. This will help us process donations efficiently while also allowing those with only a small amount of PLEX to participate.
If you don’t have any PLEX or ISK with which to obtain it from the market but would still like to give, we would encourage you to make a direct donation to one of the following organizations who are helping with the rescue and relief efforts.
IMPORTANT: CCP regards any scamming attempts surrounding PLEX for GOOD to be morally reprehensible, and any attempts at scamming relating to this program will be met with the harshest and swiftest action at our disposal. If you become aware anyone of attempting a scam related to PLEX for GOOD, please notify us at support@eveonline.com.
Where will my donation go?
As it is still early and the situation is dynamic, CCP is actively working on determining the most suitable organizations to partner with so that the assistance through this campaign goes to those that are actively involved in relief operations. We would like the EVE Online community to help us with suggestions to add to this list in the coming days.
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) cares for people affected by conflict, disease outbreaks, natural and human-made disasters, and exclusion from healthcare in more than 70 countries.
The MSF teams in northwestern Syria began treating patients within the first hours of the first earthquake. They are actively treating injured patients, delivering emergency trauma and surgery kits as well as blankets, hygiene kits, and food items to families.
In addition to the emergency response, they continue to provide regular medical assistance in hospitals in the affected areas to ensure continuity of care for the most vulnerable during this crisis.
Ahbap is a Turkish local non-profit NGO(non-governmental organization), and they are leading the support efforts in Türkiye.
Conclusion
The duration of this PLEX for GOOD campaign will be shorter than our previous campaigns as it is paramount that aid arrives as soon as possible. Spread the word to your spacefriends, as no matter how small, every donation matters.
If during the course of this campaign, EVE players wish to conduct their own PLEX-raising initiatives in their corps, alliances, or other communities, then please reach out to us at communityteam@ccpgames.com and we will help raise awareness of your efforts!
