'Pistol Whip' Launches For PS VR 2, Overdrive Season Will Add New Content, Modding Tool Planned - Trailer

by Rainier on Feb. 22, 2023 @ 3:34 p.m. PST

Pistol Whip is an unstoppable VR action-rhythm FPS where you journey through a cinematic bullet hell powered by a breakneck soundtrack to become the ultimate action hero legend.

Inspired by God-mode action movies like John Wick and Equilibrium, Pistol Whip throws you gun-first into an explosive batch of hand-crafted action scenes each set to their own breakneck soundtrack.

But unlike traditional music games, Pistol Whip has no line in the sand; you have complete freedom to shoot, melee, and dodge targets to the rhythm YOU see fit.

Pistol Whip is enhanced exclusively for the PlayStation VR2. Now equipped with native haptics and an optimized hard drive, the all-new Sony system hits shelves today, with Pistol Whip as a Day 1 title.

The game introduces more dimension to the blood-pumping Scenes and dynamic tracks by using the PS VR2’s built-in haptic feedback, including headset and controller rumble, finger touch detection, and adaptive triggers.

Reimagined PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers are equipped with finger touch detection and a six-axis motion sensing system to create a more realistic firing experience. Discover unique feedback when reloading, changing trigger resistance including a haptic for dry fire, and three different sensations for melee weapons.

3D Audio uses dynamic positioning and works in conjunction with the hardware haptics to make Pistol Whip’s iconic film-inspired Scenes feel more real than ever. The headset tracks where sound effects are, relative to the player, and adjusts volume automatically along with vibrations so you can hear and feel bullets whizz by your head.

With significantly reduced loading times and seriously boosted operating speed thanks to the PS VR2’s solid-state hard drive, this upgraded version of Pistol Whip is an engrossing new experience.

With a roadmap that suggests plenty of new Scenes coming this year, lucky PlayStation VR2 users can download this shiny new edition right away (and at no charge, if you already own the original); just in time to practice for the upcoming releases.

5 new Scenes in 2023

Our heroes have been asking for more Pistol Whip Scenes and this year, we’re answering that call to arms with five brand new tracks.

The Overdrive Season will be released one mind-blowing Scene at a time throughout the spring and summer months, throwing players into hand-crafted fantasy worlds with tracks that will rock you down to your bones. It’s time to start warming up now, even if you consider yourself a master marksman, because those levels will be coming in hot and you don’t want to be caught off-guard.

The first new Scene, featuring the track “Shred” by LeKtrique, is set to drop in Pistol Whip’s Arcade Mode on May 1, 2023.

Obviously we don’t want to spoil anything… but we can say these fresh Scenes bring on fresh challenges.

Now for something we know you’ve been waiting for, asking about, dreaming of… That’s right, we’re adding an official modding tool! The highly anticipated Pistol Mix will roll out next year. We can’t wait to see what kinds of custom Scenes you create and share with the VR community.
