'Neverwinter' Northdark Reaches Questline Part Two Scheduled for Later This Month

by Rainier on March 15, 2023 @ 11:22 a.m. PDT

In Neverwinter, players choose to become one of five classic D&D classes and team up with friends or NPCs to form five-person co-op groups. Players also create their own storylines and quests utilizing a user-friendly content generation system.

Players explore the vast city of Neverwinter and its surrounding countryside, learning the vivid history of the iconic city and battling its many enemies. In Neverwinter, players can create their own quests and campaigns with the Foundry, a powerful content creation tool that allows players to seamlessly integrate their adventures in to the live game world.

They might not be the most pleasant-looking creatures, but they are definitely a fierce bunch of savage and bloodthirsty warriors. By plaguing the civilized races, Orcs have always been a major threat to humans, elves and dwarfs. Laying claim to the area in the northern half of the old Tower District, Orcs have made the Cloak Tower in Neverwinter their home.

Even the most courageous heroes will have to fight their way through the ruins of this district to put an end to the Orc domination and help restore Neverwinter to her former glory.

Gearbox Publishing and Cryptic Studios announcedthat Neverwinter’s 25th module, Menzoberranzan will launch on PC, PlayStation and Xbox consoles on March 28.

The upcoming major update for the free-to-play Dungeons & Dragons MMORPG will bring the epic conclusion of the two-part storyline and campaign written in collaboration with New York Times best-selling author R.A. Salvatore and Geno Salvatore --- that was first introduced in the previous module, Northdark Reaches.

For the first time ever in Neverwinter, players will be able to explore the drow city of Menzoberranzan, the fabled home of the legendary Dungeons & Dragons character Drizzt Do’Urden. Inspired by R.A. Salvatore’s hit trilogy book series, The Way of the Drow, players will encounter beloved D&D characters, including Drizzt, and experience the events that occur between the final two books, Glacier’s Edge and Lolth's Warrior.

*Spoilers ahead for those who have not completed the story content in the latest game update, Northdark Reaches*

Following the events of Northdark Reaches, Jarlaxle Baenre, leader of the Bregan D'aerthe mercenary company, has returned to the legendary City of Spiders, Menzoberranzan, after being reunited with the illustrious scout Braelin Janquay. The stench of civil war looms on the horizon, and rumors of a long-forgotten artifact threaten to turn the tides in Lolth's favor. The Underdark will succumb to chaos if such power falls into the wrong hands. To stop the civil war from becoming a reality, you’ll need to join the ex-drider forces of the Blaspheme and delve into the darkness once more to save the great city of Menzoberranzan!

Heroes brave enough to answer Jarlaxle Baenre’s call for aid will discover plenty of new content within Neverwinter, including the new Menzoberranzan Adventure Zone. For surviving the deadly streets of the famed drow city, players will need to avoid drow patrols and evade assassins that await you. While exploring this region of the Underdark, expect to discover new quests, encounter both friend and foe in challenging battles – including heroic encounters -- and unearth epic rewards as you explore epic locations across Menzoberranzan in the Underdark of Faerûn.

In celebration of Neverwinter's 10-year anniversary, Dungeons & Dragons fans and Neverwinter players alike can challenge the beholder deity Gzemnid and claim rare treasures. After being drawn to the power of a powerful artifact of calamitous potential, the Eye of Odran, Gzemnid has taken physical form within his reliquary, and eagerly awaits those brave and foolish enough to face a beholder god. Along with this trial, quality of life improvements, such as balancing updates to companions, new Insignia-specific updates to the mount system and new rewards for all appointment store events will be included in the new module.

Neverwinter is available on PC and is free to play digitally on Xbox One (with Xbox Live Gold) and PS4 (PlayStation Plus not required).
